Santi, bhikkhave, tiracchānagatā pāṇā gūthabhakkhā.
There are animals that feed on dung.

ทูรโตว คูถคนฺธํ ฆายิตฺวา ธาวนฺติ✎ ร่าง
Te dūratova gūthagandhaṁ ghāyitvā dhāvanti:
When they catch a whiff of dung they run to it, thinking,
เอตฺถ ภุญฺชิสฺสาม เอตฺถ
ภุญฺชิสฺสามาติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
‘ettha bhuñjissāma, ettha bhuñjissāmā’ti.
‘There we’ll eat! There we’ll eat!’
เสยฺยถาปิ นาม พฺราหฺมณา อาหุติคนฺเธน ธาวนฺติ✎ ร่าง
Seyyathāpi nāma brāhmaṇā āhutigandhena dhāvanti:
It’s like when brahmins smell a burnt offering, they run to it, thinking,
เอตฺถ ภุญฺชิสฺสาม เอตฺถ ภุญฺชิสฺสามาติ✎ ร่าง
‘ettha bhuñjissāma, ettha bhuñjissāmā’ti;
‘There we’ll eat! There we’ll eat!’
เอวเมว โข สนฺติ
ภิกฺขเว ติรจฺฉานคตา ปาณา คูถภกฺขา ฯ✎ ร่าง
evameva kho, bhikkhave, santi tiracchānagatā pāṇā gūthabhakkhā,
In the same way, there are animals that feed on dung.
เต ทูรโตว คูถคนฺธํ
ฆายิตฺวา ธาวนฺติ✎ ร่าง

Katame ca, bhikkhave, tiracchānagatā pāṇā gūthabhakkhā?
And what animals feed on dung?
กุกฺกุฏา สูกรา
โสณา สิงฺคาลา เย วา ปนญฺเญปิ เกจิ ติรจฺฉานคตา ปาณา
คูถภกฺขา ฯ✎ ร่าง
Kukkuṭā sūkarā soṇā siṅgālā, ye vā panaññepi keci tiracchānagatā pāṇā gūthabhakkhā.
Chickens, pigs, hounds, jackals, and various others.
ส โข โส ภิกฺขเว พาโล อิธ ปุพฺเพ รสาโท อิธ
ปาปานิ กมฺมานิ กริตฺวา กายสฺส เภทา ปรมฺมรณา เตสํ สตฺตานํ

Sa kho so, bhikkhave, bālo idha pubbe rasādo idha pāpāni kammāni karitvā kāyassa bhedā paraṁ maraṇā tesaṁ sattānaṁ sahabyataṁ upapajjati ye te sattā gūthabhakkhā.
A fool who used to be a glutton here and did bad deeds here, after death is reborn in the company of those sentient beings who feed on dung.
