[๕๘๐] สุภมาณพ โตเทยยบุตร พอนั่งเรียบร้อยแล้ว ได้ทูลถาม พระผู้มีพระภาคดังนี้ว่า ข้าแต่พระโคดมผู้เจริญ อะไรหนอแล เป็นเหตุ เป็นปัจจัย ให้พวกมนุษย์ที่เกิดเป็นมนุษย์อยู่ ปรากฏความเลวและความประณีต คือ มนุษย์ ทั้งหลายย่อมปรากฏมีอายุสั้น มีอายุยืน มีโรคมาก มีโรคน้อย มีผิวพรรณทราม มีผิวพรรณงาม มีศักดาน้อย มีศักดามาก มีโภคะน้อย มีโภคะมาก เกิดใน สกุลต่ำ เกิดในสกุลสูง ไร้ปัญญา มีปัญญา ข้าแต่พระโคดมผู้เจริญ อะไรหนอแล เป็นเหตุ เป็นปัจจัย ให้พวกมนุษย์ที่เกิดเป็นมนุษย์อยู่ ปรากฏความเลวและความ ประณีต ฯ

เอกมนฺตํ นิสินฺโน โข สุโภ มาณโว โตเทยฺยปุตฺโต ภควนฺตํ เอตทโวจ โก นุ โข โภ โคตม เหตุ โก ปจฺจโย เยน มนุสฺสานํเยว สตํ มนุสฺสภูตานํ ทิสฺสติ หีนปฺปณีตตา✎ ร่าง

“Ko nu kho, bho gotama, hetu ko paccayo yena manussānaṁyeva sataṁ manussabhūtānaṁ dissanti hīnappaṇītatā?

“What is the cause, worthy Gotama, what is the reason why even among those who are human beings some are seen to be inferior and superior?
