[๒๑๕] ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ต้นไม้อ่อนยืนต้นอยู่อย่างนั้น ทีนั้นบุรุษเอา
จอบและภาชนะมา ฯลฯ หรือลอยในแม่น้ำมีกระแสอันเชี่ยว ก็เมื่อเป็นอย่างนี้
ต้นไม้อ่อนนั้น ถูกตัดเอารากขึ้นแล้ว ทำให้เป็นดังตาลยอดด้วน ถึงความไม่มี
ไม่เกิดอีกต่อไป แม้ฉันใด ภิกษุทั้งหลาย เมื่อภิกษุเห็นโทษเนืองๆ ในธรรม
ทั้งหลาย อันเป็นปัจจัยแห่งสังโยชน์อยู่ ตัณหาย่อมดับ ฉันนั้นเหมือนกัน
เพราะตัณหาดับ อุปาทานจึงดับ ฯลฯ ความดับแห่งกองทุกข์ทั้งมวลนี้ ย่อมมี

เสยฺยถาปิ ภิกฺขเว ตรุโณ รุกฺโข✎ ร่าง
Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, taruṇo rukkho.
Suppose there was a sapling.

Then a person comes along with a spade and basket. …
นทิยา วา สีฆโสตาย
ปวาเหยฺย✎ ร่าง
nadiyā vā sīghasotāya pavāheyya.
They’d cut the sapling apart, cut up the parts, and chop it into splinters. They’d dry the splinters in the wind and sun, burn them with fire, and reduce them to ashes. Then they’d winnow the ashes in a strong wind, or glide them down a swift stream.
เอวญฺหิ โส ภิกฺขเว ตรุโณ รุกฺโข อุจฺฉินฺนมูโล อสฺส
ตาลาวตฺถุกโต อนภาวงฺคโต อายตึ อนุปฺปาทธมฺโม✎ ร่าง
Evañhi so, bhikkhave, taruṇo rukkho ucchinnamūlo assa tālāvatthukato anabhāvaṅkato āyatiṁ anuppādadhammo.
In this way the sapling is cut off at the root, made like a palm stump, obliterated, and unable to arise in the future.
เอวเมว
โข ภิกฺขเว สญฺโญชนิเยสุ ธมฺเมสุ อาทีนวานุปสฺสิโน วิหรโต
ตณฺหา นิรุชฺฌติ✎ ร่าง
Evameva kho, bhikkhave, saṁyojaniyesu dhammesu ādīnavānupassino viharato taṇhā nirujjhati.
In the same way, there are things that tighten the fetters. When you concentrate on the drawbacks of these things, your craving ceases.
ตณฺหานิโรธา อุปาทานนิโรโธ ฯเปฯ✎ ร่าง
Taṇhānirodhā upādānanirodho …pe…
When craving ceases, grasping ceases. …
เอวเมตสฺส เกวลสฺส ทุกฺขกฺขนฺธสฺส นิโรโธ โหตีติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
evametassa kevalassa dukkhakkhandhassa nirodho hotī”ti.
That is how this entire mass of suffering ceases.”
