[๗๐๘] พระผู้มีพระภาคผู้สุคตศาสดา ครั้นได้ตรัสไวยากรณภาษิตนี้ แล้ว จึงได้ตรัสคาถาประพันธ์ต่อไปว่า ชนทั้งหลายย่อมไม่รู้จักคนที่ไม่พูด ว่าเจือด้วยพาลหรือเป็น บัณฑิต แต่ย่อมรู้จักคนที่พูด ผู้แสดงทางอมฤตอยู่ บุคคล พึงกล่าวธรรม พึงส่องธรรม พึงประคองธงชัยของฤาษี ฤาษี ทั้งหลายมีสุภาษิตเป็นธง ธรรมนั่นเองเป็นธงชัยของพวก ฤาษี ดังนี้ ฯ

Idamavoca bhagavā.

That is what the Buddha said.

อิทํ วตฺวาน สุคโต อถาปรํ เอตทโวจ สตฺถา✎ ร่าง

Idaṁ vatvāna sugato athāparaṁ etadavoca satthā:

Then the Holy One, the Teacher, went on to say:

sn21.7:5.1 #

นาภาสมาน ๑- ชานนฺติ✎ ร่าง

“Nābhāsamānaṁ jānanti,

“Though an astute person is mixed up with fools,

sn21.7:5.2 #

มิสฺสํ พาเลหิ ปณฺฑตํ✎ ร่าง

missaṁ bālehi paṇḍitaṁ;

they don’t know unless he speaks.

sn21.7:5.3 #

ภาสมานญฺจ ชานนฺติ✎ ร่าง

Bhāsamānañca jānanti,

But when he speaks they know,

sn21.7:5.4 #

เทเสนฺตํ อมตํ ปทํ✎ ร่าง

desentaṁ amataṁ padaṁ.

he’s teaching the state free of death.

sn21.7:6.1 #

ภาสเย โชตเย ธมฺมํ✎ ร่าง

Bhāsaye jotaye dhammaṁ,

He should speak and illustrate the teaching,

sn21.7:6.2 #

ปคฺคเณฺห อิสินํ ธชํ✎ ร่าง

paggaṇhe isinaṁ dhajaṁ;

holding up the banner of the seers.

sn21.7:6.3 #

สุภาสิตธชา อิสโย✎ ร่าง

Subhāsitadhajā isayo,

Words well spoken are the seers’ banner,

sn21.7:6.4 #

ธมฺโม หิ อิสินํ ธโชติ ฯ✎ ร่าง

dhammo hi isinaṁ dhajo”ti.

for the teaching is the banner of the seers.”
