So pāṇātipātaṁ pahāya pāṇātipātā paṭivirato hoti.
They give up killing living creatures.

Kāmesumicchācāraṁ pahāya kāmesumicchācārā paṭivirato hoti.
They give up sexual misconduct.
มุสาวาทํ
ปหาย มุสาวาทา ปฏิวิรโต โหติ✎ ร่าง
Musāvādaṁ pahāya musāvādā paṭivirato hoti.
They give up lying.
ปิสุณํ วาจํ ปหาย ปิสุณาย
วาจาย ปฏิวิรโต โหติ✎ ร่าง
Pisuṇaṁ vācaṁ pahāya pisuṇāya vācāya paṭivirato hoti.
They give up backbiting.
ผรุสํ วาจํ ปหาย ผรุสาย วาจาย ปฏิวิรโต

Pharusaṁ vācaṁ pahāya pharusāya vācāya paṭivirato hoti.
They give up harsh speech.
สมฺผปฺปลาปํ ปหาย สมฺผปฺปลาปา ปฏิวิรโต โหติ✎ ร่าง
Samphappalāpaṁ pahāya samphappalāpā paṭivirato hoti.
They give up talking nonsense.
อภิชฺฌํ
ปหาย อนภิชฺฌาลุ โหติ✎ ร่าง
Abhijjhaṁ pahāya anabhijjhālu hoti.
They give up covetousness.
พฺยาปาทปโทสํ ปหาย อพฺยาปนฺนจิตฺโต
โหติ✎ ร่าง
Byāpādappadosaṁ pahāya abyāpannacitto hoti.
They give up ill will and malevolence.
มิจฺฉาทิฏฺฐึ ปหาย สมฺมาทิฏฺฐิโก โหติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Micchādiṭṭhiṁ pahāya sammādiṭṭhiko hoti.
They give up wrong view and have right view.
สโข โส คามณิ อริยสาวโก เอวํ วิคตาภิชฺโฌ
วิคตพฺยาปาโท อสมฺมูโฬฺห สมฺปชาโน ปฏิสฺสโต เมตฺตาสหคเตน
เจตสา เอกํ ทิสํ ผริตฺวา วิหรติ ตถา ทุติยํ ฯ ตถา ตติยํ ฯ
ตถา จตุตฺถํ ฯ อิติ อุทฺธมโธ ติริยํ สพฺพธิ สพฺพตฺตตาย

Sa kho so, gāmaṇi, ariyasāvako evaṁ vigatābhijjho vigatabyāpādo asammūḷho sampajāno paṭissato mettāsahagatena cetasā ekaṁ disaṁ pharitvā viharati, tathā dutiyaṁ, tathā tatiyaṁ, tathā catutthaṁ. Iti uddhamadho tiriyaṁ sabbadhi sabbattatāya sabbāvantaṁ lokaṁ mettāsahagatena cetasā vipulena mahaggatena appamāṇena averena abyāpajjena pharitvā viharati.
That noble disciple is rid of desire, rid of ill will, unconfused, aware, and mindful. They meditate spreading a heart full of love to one direction, and to the second, and to the third, and to the fourth. In the same way above, below, across, everywhere, all around, they spread a heart full of love to the whole world—abundant, expansive, limitless, free of enmity and ill will.
เสยฺยถาปิ คามณิ พลวา สงฺขธโม อปฺปกสิเรเนว จตุทฺทิสา
วิญฺญาเปยฺย ฯ✎ ร่าง
Seyyathāpi, gāmaṇi, balavā saṅkhadhamo appakasireneva catuddisā viññāpeyya;
Suppose there was a powerful horn blower. They’d easily make themselves heard in the four quarters.
เอวเมว โข คามณิ เอวํ ภาวิตาย เมตฺตาย
เจโตวิมุตฺติยา เอวํ พหุลีกตาย ยํ ปมาณกตํ กมฺมํ น ตํ
ตตฺราวสิสฺสติ น ตํ ตตฺราวติฏฺฐติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
evameva kho, gāmaṇi, evaṁ bhāvitāya mettāya cetovimuttiyā evaṁ bahulīkatāya yaṁ pamāṇakataṁ kammaṁ, na taṁ tatrāvasissati, na taṁ tatrāvatiṭṭhati.
In the same way, when the heart’s release by love has been developed and cultivated like this, any limited deeds they’ve done don’t remain or persist there.
สโข โส คามณิ อริยสาวโก เอวํ วิคตาภิชฺโฌ
วิคตพฺยาปาโท อสมฺมูโฬฺห สมฺปชาโน ปฏิสฺสโต กรุณาสหคเตน

When he said this, Asibandhaka’s son the chief said to the Buddha,
อภิกฺกนฺตํ ภนฺเต อภิกฺกนฺตํ ภนฺเต ฯเปฯ✎ ร่าง
“abhikkantaṁ, bhante, abhikkantaṁ, bhante …pe…
“Excellent, sir! Excellent! …
อุปาสกํ มํ ภควา
ธาเรตุ อชฺชตคฺเค ปาณุเปตํ สรณงฺคตนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
upāsakaṁ maṁ bhagavā dhāretu ajjatagge pāṇupetaṁ saraṇaṁ gatan”ti.
From this day forth, may the Buddha remember me as a lay follower who has gone for refuge for life.”
