เนื้อความทั้งข้อ
[๑๗๓๓] ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็สมณะหรือพราหมณ์เหล่าใดเหล่าหนึ่ง ย่อมไม่รู้ชัด
ตามความเป็นจริงว่า นี้ทุกข์ ฯลฯ นี้ทุกขนิโรธคามินีปฏิปทา สมณะหรือพราหมณ์เหล่านั้น
ย่อมยินดีในสังขารทั้งหลาย ซึ่งเป็นไปเพื่อความเกิด ฯลฯ ยินดีแล้ว ย่อมปรุงแต่ง ครั้น
ปรุงแต่งแล้ว ย่อมเร่าร้อนด้วยความเร่าร้อนเพราะความเกิดบ้าง ความแก่บ้าง ความตายบ้าง
ความเศร้าโศก ความร่ำไร ความทุกข์ ความโทมนัส และความคับแค้นใจบ้าง เรากล่าวว่า
สมณะหรือพราหมณ์เหล่านั้น ย่อมไม่พ้นไปจากความเกิด ... ความคับแค้นใจ ย่อมไม่พ้นไป
จากทุกข์.
เย หิ เกจิ ภิกฺขเว ๒- สมณา วา พฺราหฺมณา วา
อิทํ ทุกฺขนฺติ ยถาภูตํ นปฺปชานนฺติ ฯเปฯ อยํ ทุกฺขนิโรธคามินี
ปฏิปทาติ ยถาภูตํ นปฺปชานนฺติ ฯ เต ชาติสํวตฺตนิเกสุ สงฺขาเรสุ
อภิรมนฺติ ฯเปฯ✎ ร่าง
‘ayaṁ dukkhanirodhagāminī paṭipadā’ti yathābhūtaṁ nappajānanti, te jātisaṁvattanikesu saṅkhāresu abhiramanti …pe…
They take pleasure in choices that lead to rebirth …
อภิรตา อภิสงฺขโรนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง

They continue to make such choices …
อภิสงฺขริตฺวา ชาติปริฬาเหนปิ
ปริฑยฺหนฺติ ชราปริฬาเหนปิ ปริฑยฺหนฺติ มรณปริฬาเหนปิ
ปริฑยฺหนฺติ โสกปริเทวทุกฺขโทมนสฺสุปายาสปริฬาเหนปิ
ปริฑยฺหนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
abhisaṅkharitvā jātipariḷāhenapi pariḍayhanti, jarāpariḷāhenapi pariḍayhanti, maraṇapariḷāhenapi pariḍayhanti, sokaparidevadukkhadomanassupāyāsapariḷāhenapi pariḍayhanti.
Having made such choices, they burn with the scorching of rebirth, old age, and death, of sorrow, lamentation, pain, sadness, and distress.
เต น ปริมุจฺจนฺติ ชาติยา ชราย มรเณน โสเกหิ
ปริเทเวหิ ทุกฺเขหิ โทมนสฺเสหิ อุปายาเสหิ✎ ร่าง
Te na parimuccanti jātiyā jarāya maraṇena sokehi paridevehi dukkhehi domanassehi upāyāsehi.
They’re not freed from rebirth, old age, and death, from sorrow, lamentation, pain, sadness, and distress.
น ปริมุจฺจนฺติ ทุกฺขสฺมาติ
วทามิ ฯ✎ ร่าง
‘Na parimuccanti dukkhasmā’ti vadāmi.
They’re not freed from suffering, I say.
