[๙๘๗] ข้าพเจ้าได้สดับมาแล้วอย่างนี้:-
สมัยหนึ่ง พระผู้มีพระภาคประทับอยู่ ณ ปราสาทของนางวิสาขามิคารมารดา ใน
ปุพพาราม ใกล้พระนครสาวัตถี ณ ที่นั้นแล พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสเรียกภิกษุทั้งหลายมาแล้วตรัส
ถามว่า ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย เพราะความที่อินทรีย์เท่าไรหนอ อันตนเจริญแล้ว กระทำให้มากแล้ว
ภิกษุผู้ขีณาสพ ย่อมพยากรณ์อรหัตผลได้ว่า เรารู้ชัดว่า ชาติสิ้นแล้ว พรหมจรรย์อยู่จบแล้ว
กิจที่ควรทำ ทำเสร็จแล้ว กิจอื่นเพื่อความเป็นอย่างนี้มิได้มี. ภิกษุทั้งหลายกราบทูลว่า
ข้าแต่พระองค์ผู้เจริญ ธรรมทั้งหลายของพวกข้าพระองค์ มีพระผู้มีพระภาคเป็นรากฐาน ฯลฯ

Evaṁ me sutaṁ—
So I have heard.

เอกํ สมยํ ภควา สาวตฺถิยํ วิหรติ ปุพฺพาราเม
ราเม มิคารมาตุปาสาเท ฯ✎ ร่าง
ekaṁ samayaṁ bhagavā sāvatthiyaṁ viharati pubbārāme migāramātupāsāde.
At one time the Buddha was staying near Sāvatthī in the stilt longhouse of Migāra’s mother in the Eastern Monastery.
ตตฺร โข ภควา ภิกฺขู อามนฺเตสิ✎ ร่าง
Tatra kho bhagavā bhikkhū āmantesi:
There the Buddha addressed the mendicants:
กตินํ
นุ โข ภิกฺขเว อินฺทฺริยานํ ภาวิตตฺตา พหุลีกตตฺตา ขีณาสโว ภิกฺขุ
อญฺญํ พฺยากโรติ✎ ร่าง
“katinaṁ nu kho, bhikkhave, indriyānaṁ bhāvitattā bahulīkatattā khīṇāsavo bhikkhu aññaṁ byākaroti:
“Mendicants, how many faculties must a mendicant develop and cultivate so that they can declare enlightenment:
ขีณา ชาติ วุสิตํ พฺรหฺมจริยํ กตํ กรณียํ นาปรํ
อิตฺถตฺตายาติ ปชานามีติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
‘khīṇā jāti, vusitaṁ brahmacariyaṁ, kataṁ karaṇīyaṁ, nāparaṁ itthattāyā’ti pajānāmī”ti?
‘I understand: “Rebirth is ended, the spiritual journey has been completed, what had to be done has been done, there is nothing further for this place”’?”
ภควํมูลกา โน ภนฺเต ธมฺมา ฯเปฯ✎ ร่าง
“Bhagavaṁmūlakā no, bhante, dhammā …pe…
“Our teachings are rooted in the Buddha. …”
