[๓๑] ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย เมื่อคืนนี้ เมื่อปฐมยามล่วงไปแล้ว เทวดา ตนหนึ่ง ฯลฯ ได้กล่าวกะเราว่า ข้าแต่พระองค์ผู้เจริญ ธรรม ๗ ประการนี้ ย่อม เป็นไปเพื่อความไม่เสื่อมแก่ภิกษุ ๗ ประการเป็นไฉน คือ ความเป็นผู้เคารพใน พระศาสดา ๑ ความเป็นผู้เคารพในธรรม ๑ ความเป็นผู้เคารพในสงฆ์ ๑ ความ เป็นผู้เคารพในสิกขา ๑ ความเป็นผู้เคารพในสมาธิ ๑ ความเป็นผู้ว่าง่าย ๑ ความเป็นผู้มีมิตรดีงาม ๑ ข้าแต่พระองค์ผู้เจริญ ธรรม ๗ ประการนี้ ย่อมเป็นไป เพื่อความไม่เสื่อมแก่ภิกษุ ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย เทวดานั้น ครั้นกล่าวดังนี้แล้ว ไหว้เรา กระทำประทักษิณแล้ว หายไป ณ ที่นั้นเอง ฯ ภิกษุผู้มีความเคารพในพระศาสดา มีความเคารพในธรรม มี ความเคารพอย่างแรงกล้าในสงฆ์ มีความเคารพในสมาธิ มี ความเพียร มีความเคารพอย่างแรงกล้าในสิกขา มีมิตรดีงาม เป็นผู้ว่าง่าย มีความเคารพ ยำเกรง เป็นผู้ไม่ควรเพื่อความ เสื่อม ย่อมมีในที่ใกล้นิพพานทีเดียว ฯ
