[๑๗๙] พระผู้มีพระภาคจึงได้ตรัสดังนี้ว่า ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย อสัปปุริส ธรรมเป็นอย่างไร คืออสัตบุรุษในโลกนี้ เป็นผู้ออกจากสกุลสูงบวชแล้ว ย่อม พิจารณาเห็นดังนี้ว่า เราเป็นผู้ออกจากสกุลสูงบวชแล้ว ส่วนภิกษุอื่นเหล่านี้ มิใช่เป็นผู้ออกจากสกุลสูงบวชแล้ว อสัตบุรุษนั้นจึงยกตน ข่มผู้อื่น เพราะความ เป็นผู้มีสกุลสูงนั้น ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย นี้คือ อสัปปุริสธรรม ฯ ส่วนสัตบุรุษแล ย่อมพิจารณาเห็นดังนี้ว่า ธรรมคือความโลภ ความ โกรธ ความหลง ย่อมไม่ถึงความหมดสิ้นไป เพราะความเป็นผู้มีสกุลสูงเลย ถึงแม้ภิกษุไม่ใช่เป็นผู้ออกจากสกุลสูงบวชแล้ว แต่เป็นผู้ปฏิบัติธรรมสมควรแก่ ธรรม ปฏิบัติชอบ ประพฤติธรรมอันสมควร คนทั้งหลายก็ต้องบูชาสรรเสริญ เธอในที่นั้นๆ สัตบุรุษนั้นทำการปฏิบัติแต่ภายในเท่านั้น ไม่ยกตน ไม่ข่มผู้อื่น เพราะความเป็นผู้มีสกุลสูงนั้น ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย นี้คือ สัปปุริสธรรม ฯ

ekaṁ samayaṁ bhagavā sāvatthiyaṁ viharati jetavane anāthapiṇḍikassa ārāme.

At one time the Buddha was staying near Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s monastery.

Tatra kho bhagavā bhikkhū āmantesi:

There the Buddha addressed the mendicants,

“bhikkhavo”ti.

“Mendicants!”

“Bhadante”ti te bhikkhū bhagavato paccassosuṁ.

“Venerable sir,” they replied.

“sappurisadhammañca vo, bhikkhave, desessāmi asappurisadhammañca.

“Mendicants, I will teach you the qualities of a true person and the qualities of an untrue person.

mn113:2.2 #

Taṁ suṇātha, sādhukaṁ manasi karotha, bhāsissāmī”ti.

Listen and apply your mind well, I will speak.”

“Evaṁ, bhante”ti kho te bhikkhū bhagavato paccassosuṁ.

“Yes, sir,” they replied.

อิธ ภิกฺขเว อสปฺปุริโส อุจฺจากุลา ปพฺพชิโต โหติ ฯ✎ ร่าง

Idha, bhikkhave, asappuriso uccākulā pabbajito hoti.

Take an untrue person who has gone forth from an eminent family.

โส อิติ ปฏิสญฺจิกฺขติ✎ ร่าง

So iti paṭisañcikkhati:

อหํ โขมฺหิ อุจฺจากุลา ปพฺพชิโต อิเม ปนญฺเญ ภิกฺขู น อุจฺจากุลา ปพฺพชิตาติ ฯ✎ ร่าง

‘ahaṁ khomhi uccākulā pabbajito, ime panaññe bhikkhū na uccākulā pabbajitā’ti.

‘I have gone forth from an eminent family, unlike these other mendicants.’

mn113:3.5 #

โส ตาย อุจฺจากุลีนตาย อตฺตานุกฺกํเสติ ปรํ วมฺเภติ✎ ร่าง

So tāya uccākulīnatāya attānukkaṁseti, paraṁ vambheti.

And they glorify themselves and put others down on account of that.

อยํ ๑- ภิกฺขเว อสปฺปุริสธมฺโม ฯ✎ ร่าง

Ayaṁ, bhikkhave, asappurisadhammo.

This is a quality of an untrue person.

mn113:3.7 #

สปฺปุริโส จ โข ภิกฺขเว อิติ ปฏิสญฺจิกฺขติ✎ ร่าง

Sappuriso ca kho, bhikkhave, iti paṭisañcikkhati:

A true person reflects:

mn113:3.8 #

น โข อุจฺจากุลีนตาย โลภธมฺมา วา ปริกฺขยํ คจฺฉนฺติ โทสธมฺมา วา ปริกฺขยํ คจฺฉนฺติ โมหธมฺมา วา ปริกฺขยํ คจฺฉนฺติ✎ ร่าง

‘na kho uccākulīnatāya lobhadhammā vā parikkhayaṁ gacchanti, dosadhammā vā parikkhayaṁ gacchanti, mohadhammā vā parikkhayaṁ gacchanti.

‘It’s not because of one’s eminent family that thoughts of greed, hate, or delusion come to an end.

โน เจปิ อุจฺจากุลา ปพฺพชิโต โหติ✎ ร่าง

No cepi uccākulā pabbajito hoti;

Even if someone has not gone forth from an eminent family,

mn113:3.10 #

โส จ โหติ ธมฺมานุธมฺมปฏิปนฺโน สามีจิปฏิปนฺโน อนุธมฺมจารี โส ตตฺถ ปุชฺโช โส ตตฺถ ปาสํโสติ ฯ✎ ร่าง

so ca hoti dhammānudhammappaṭipanno sāmīcippaṭipanno anudhammacārī, so tattha pujjo, so tattha pāsaṁso’ti.

if they practice in line with the teaching, practice properly, and live in line with the teaching, they are worthy of honor and praise for that.’

mn113:3.11 #

โส ปฏิปทํเยว อนฺตรํ กริตฺวา ตาย อุจฺจากุลีนตาย เนวตฺตานุกฺกํเสติ น ปรํ วมฺเภติ✎ ร่าง

So paṭipadaṁyeva antaraṁ karitvā tāya uccākulīnatāya nevattānukkaṁseti na paraṁ vambheti.

Keeping the practice to themselves, they don’t glorify themselves and put others down on account of their eminent family.

mn113:3.12 #

อยํ ภิกฺขเว สปฺปุริสธมฺโม ฯ✎ ร่าง

Ayaṁ, bhikkhave, sappurisadhammo.

This is a quality of a true person.
