เตน โข ปน สมเยน ภควา ตทหุโปสเถ ปณฺณรเส
โกมุทิยา จาตุมาสินิยา ปุณฺณาย ปุณฺณมาย รตฺติยา ภิกฺขุสงฺฆปริวุโต
อพฺโภกาเส นิสินฺโน โหติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Tena kho pana samayena bhagavā tadahuposathe pannarase komudiyā cātumāsiniyā puṇṇāya puṇṇamāya rattiyā bhikkhusaṅghaparivuto abbhokāse nisinno hoti.
Now, at that time it was the sabbath—the Komudī full moon on the fifteenth day of the fourth month—and the Buddha was sitting in the open surrounded by a Saṅgha of monks.

อถ โข ภควา ตุณฺหีภูตํ
ภิกฺขุสงฺฆํ อนุวิโลเกตฺวา ภิกฺขู อามนฺเตสิ✎ ร่าง
Atha kho bhagavā tuṇhībhūtaṁ tuṇhībhūtaṁ bhikkhusaṅghaṁ anuviloketvā bhikkhū āmantesi:
Then the Buddha looked around the Saṅgha of mendicants, who were so very silent. He addressed them:
อปลาปายํ ภิกฺขเว
ปริสา นิปฺปลาปายํ ภิกฺขเว ปริสา สุทฺธสาเร ๓- ปติฏฺฐิตา ฯ✎ ร่าง
“Apalāpāyaṁ, bhikkhave, parisā; nippalāpāyaṁ, bhikkhave, parisā; suddhā sāre patiṭṭhitā.
“This assembly has no chaff, mendicants, it is free of chaff, pure, and consolidated in the core.

ตถารูโป อยํ ภิกฺขเว ภิกฺขุสงฺโฆ ตถารูปายํ ภิกฺขเว ปริสา✎ ร่าง
Tathārūpo ayaṁ, bhikkhave, bhikkhusaṅgho; tathārūpā ayaṁ, bhikkhave, parisā
Such is this Saṅgha of mendicants, such is this assembly!
ยถารูปา ปริสา อาหุเนยฺยา ๑- ปาหุเนยฺยา ทกฺขิเณยฺยา
อญฺชลิกรณียา อนุตฺตรํ ปุญฺญกฺเขตฺตํ โลกสฺส ฯ✎ ร่าง
yathārūpā parisā āhuneyyā pāhuneyyā dakkhiṇeyyā añjalikaraṇīyā anuttaraṁ puññakkhettaṁ lokassa.
An assembly such as this is worthy of offerings dedicated to the gods, worthy of hospitality, worthy of a religious donation, worthy of greeting with cupped palms, and is the supreme field of merit for the world.
ตถารูโป อยํ ภิกฺขเว
ภิกฺขุสงฺโฆ ตถารูปายํ ภิกฺขเว ปริสา✎ ร่าง
Tathārūpo ayaṁ, bhikkhave, bhikkhusaṅgho; tathārūpā ayaṁ, bhikkhave, parisā
Such is this Saṅgha of mendicants, such is this assembly!
ยถารูปาย ปริสาย อปฺปํ
ทินฺนํ พหุ โหติ พหุ ทินฺนํ พหุตรํ ฯ✎ ร่าง
yathārūpāya parisāya appaṁ dinnaṁ bahu hoti, bahu dinnaṁ bahutaraṁ.
For an assembly such as this, giving little becomes much, while giving much becomes even more.
ตถารูโป อยํ ภิกฺขเว
ภิกฺขุสงฺโฆ ตถารูปายํ ภิกฺขเว ปริสา✎ ร่าง
Tathārūpo ayaṁ, bhikkhave, bhikkhusaṅgho; tathārūpā ayaṁ, bhikkhave, parisā
Such is this Saṅgha of mendicants, such is this assembly!
ยถารูปา ปริสา ทุลฺลภา
ทสฺสนาย โลกสฺส ฯ✎ ร่าง
yathārūpā parisā dullabhā dassanāya lokassa.
An assembly such as this is rarely seen in the world.
ตถารูโป อยํ ภิกฺขเว ภิกฺขุสงฺโฆ ตถารูปายํ
ภิกฺขเว ปริสา✎ ร่าง
Tathārūpo ayaṁ, bhikkhave, bhikkhusaṅgho; tathārūpā ayaṁ, bhikkhave, parisā
Such is this Saṅgha of mendicants, such is this assembly!
ยถารูปํ ปริสํ อลํ โยชนคณนานิ ทสฺสนาย คนฺตุํ
ปูฏํเสนาปิ ๒- ฯ✎ ร่าง
yathārūpaṁ parisaṁ alaṁ yojanagaṇanāni dassanāya gantuṁ puṭosenāpi.
An assembly such as this is worth traveling many leagues to see, even if you have to carry your own provisions in a knapsack.
