ekamantaṁ nisinno kho lokāyatiko brāhmaṇo bhagavantaṁ etadavoca:
Seated to one side he said to the Buddha:
กึ นุ โข โภ โคตม สพฺพมตฺถีติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“Kiṁ nu kho, bho gotama, sabbamatthī”ti?
“Worthy Gotama, does all exist?”

พฺราหฺมณ เชฏฺฐเมตํ โลกายตํ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“‘Sabbamatthī’ti kho, brāhmaṇa, jeṭṭhametaṁ lokāyataṁ”.
“‘All exists’: this is the oldest cosmology, brahmin.”
กึ ปน โภ โคตม สพฺพํ นตฺถีติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“Kiṁ pana, bho gotama, sabbaṁ natthī”ti?
“Then does all not exist?”
สพฺพํ นตฺถีติ โข พฺราหฺมณ ทุติยเมตํ โลกายตํ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“‘Sabbaṁ natthī’ti kho, brāhmaṇa, dutiyametaṁ lokāyataṁ”.
“‘All does not exist’: this is the second cosmology.”
กึ นุ โข โภ
โคตม สพฺพเมกตฺตนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“Kiṁ nu kho, bho gotama, sabbamekattan”ti?
“Well, is all oneness?”
สพฺพเมกตฺตนฺติ โข พฺราหฺมณ ตติยเมตํ
โลกายตํ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“‘Sabbamekattan’ti kho, brāhmaṇa, tatiyametaṁ lokāyataṁ”.
“‘All is oneness’: this is the third cosmology.”
กึ ปน โภ โคตม สพฺพํ ปุถุตฺตนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“Kiṁ pana, bho gotama, sabbaṁ puthuttan”ti?
“Then is all expansiveness?”

“‘Sabbaṁ puthuttan’ti kho, brāhmaṇa, catutthametaṁ lokāyataṁ.
“‘All is expansiveness’: this is the fourth cosmology.
เอเต เต พฺราหฺมณ อุโภ
อนฺเต อนุปคมฺม มชฺเฌน ตถาคโต ธมฺมํ เทเสติ✎ ร่าง
Ete te, brāhmaṇa, ubho ante anupagamma majjhena tathāgato dhammaṁ deseti:
Avoiding these two extremes, the Realized One teaches by the middle way:
อวิชฺชาปจฺจยา
สงฺขารา✎ ร่าง
‘avijjāpaccayā saṅkhārā;
‘Ignorance is a requirement for choices.
สงฺขารปจฺจยา วิญฺญาณํ ฯเปฯ✎ ร่าง
saṅkhārapaccayā viññāṇaṁ …pe…
Choices are a requirement for consciousness. …
เอวเมตสฺส เกวลสฺส
ทุกฺขกฺขนฺธสฺส สมุทโย โหติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
evametassa kevalassa dukkhakkhandhassa samudayo hoti.
That is how this entire mass of suffering originates.
อวิชฺชาย เตฺวว อเสสวิราคนิโรธา
สงฺขารนิโรโธ✎ ร่าง
Avijjāya tveva asesavirāganirodhā saṅkhāranirodho;
When ignorance fades away and ceases no residue left behind, choices cease.
สงฺขารนิโรธา วิญฺญาณนิโรโธ ฯเปฯ✎ ร่าง
saṅkhāranirodhā viññāṇanirodho …pe…
When choices cease, consciousness ceases. …
เอวเมตสฺส
เกวลสฺส ทุกฺขกฺขนฺธสฺส นิโรโธ โหตีติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
evametassa kevalassa dukkhakkhandhassa nirodho hotī’”ti.
That is how this entire mass of suffering ceases.’”
