เสยฺยถาปิ ภิกฺขเว กูฏาคารํ วา กูฏาคารสาลา วา
อุตฺตราย วา ทกฺขิณาย วา ปาจินวาตปานา ๑- สุริเย อุคฺคจฺฉนฺเต
วาตปาเนน รสฺมิ ปวิสิตฺวา กฺวาสฺส ปติฏฺฐิตาติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, kūṭāgāraṁ vā kūṭāgārasālaṁ vā uttarāya vā dakkhiṇāya vā pācīnāya vā vātapānā sūriye uggacchante vātapānena rasmi pavisitvā kvāssa patiṭṭhitā”ti?
Suppose there was a bungalow or a hall with a peaked roof, with windows on the northern, southern, or eastern side. When the sun rises and a ray of light enters through a window, where would it land?”
ปจฺฉิมายํ
ภนฺเต ภิตฺติยนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“Pacchimāyaṁ, bhante, bhittiyan”ti.
“On the western wall, sir.”
ปจฺฉิมาย เจ ภิกฺขเว ภิตฺติ นาสฺส กฺวาสฺส
ปติฏฺฐิตาติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“Pacchimā ce, bhikkhave, bhitti nāssa kvāssa patiṭṭhitā”ti?
“If there was no western wall, where would it land?”
ปฐวิยํ ภนฺเตติ ฯ ปฐวี เจ ภิกฺขเว นาสฺส กฺวาสฺส
ปติฏฺฐิตาติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“Pathavī ce, bhikkhave, nāssa kvāssa patiṭṭhitā”ti?
“If there was no ground, where would it land?”
อาปสฺมึ ภนฺเตติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“Āpasmiṁ, bhante”ti.
“In water, sir.”
อาโป เจ ภิกฺขเว นาสฺส
กฺวาสฺส ปติฏฺฐิตาติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“Āpo ce, bhikkhave, nāssa kvāssa patiṭṭhitā”ti?
“If there was no water, where would it land?”
อปฺปติฏฺฐิตา ภนฺเตติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“Appatiṭṭhitā, bhante”ti.
“It wouldn’t land, sir.”

นตฺถิ ตณฺหา อปฺปติฏฺฐิตํ ตตฺถ วิญฺญาณํ อวิรูฬฺหํ✎ ร่าง
viññāṇe ce, bhikkhave, āhāre natthi rāgo natthi nandī natthi taṇhā, appatiṭṭhitaṁ tattha viññāṇaṁ avirūḷhaṁ.
If there is no desire, relishing, and craving for consciousness as fuel, consciousness doesn’t become established there and doesn’t grow.
ยตฺถ อปฺปติฏฺฐิตํ
วิญฺญาณํ อวิรูฬฺหํ นตฺถิ ตตฺถ นามรูปสฺส อวกฺกนฺติ✎ ร่าง
Yattha appatiṭṭhitaṁ viññāṇaṁ avirūḷhaṁ, natthi tattha nāmarūpassa avakkanti.
Where consciousness is not established and doesn’t grow, name and form are not conceived.
ยตฺถ นตฺถิ
นามรูปสฺส อวกฺกนฺติ นตฺถิ ตตฺถ สงฺขารานํ วุฑฺฒิ✎ ร่าง
Yattha natthi nāmarūpassa avakkanti, natthi tattha saṅkhārānaṁ vuddhi.
Where name and form are not conceived, there is no growth of choices.

Where choices don’t grow, there is no regeneration into a new state of existence in the future.

นตฺถิ อายตึ ปุนพฺภวาภินิพฺพตฺติ นตฺถิ ตตฺถ อายตึ ชาติชรามรณํ✎ ร่าง
Yattha natthi āyatiṁ punabbhavābhinibbatti, natthi tattha āyatiṁ jātijarāmaraṇaṁ.
Where there is no regeneration into a new state of existence in the future, there is no rebirth, old age, and death in the future.
ยตฺถ นตฺถิ อายตึ ชาติชรามรณํ ฯ อโสกํ ตํ ภิกฺขเว อรชํ
อนุปายาสนฺติ วทามีติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Yattha natthi āyatiṁ jātijarāmaraṇaṁ asokaṁ taṁ, bhikkhave, adaraṁ anupāyāsanti vadāmī”ti.
Where there is no rebirth, old age, and death in the future, I say there’s no sorrow, anguish, and distress.”
