[๕๕๘] ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย เราเห็นคนบางคนในโลกนี้ อันสักการะ ครอบงำ ย่ำยีจิตแล้ว เมื่อตายไป เพราะกายแตกทำลาย ต้องเข้าถึงอบาย ทุคติ วินิบาต นรก อนึ่ง เราเห็นคนบางคนในโลกนี้ อันความเสื่อมสักการะครอบงำ ย่ำยีจิตแล้ว เมื่อตายไป เพราะกายแตกทำลาย ต้องเข้าถึงอบาย ทุคติ วินิบาต นรก เราเห็นคนบางคนในโลกนี้ อันสักการะและความเสื่อมสักการะทั้งสองอย่าง ครอบงำ ย่ำยีจิตแล้ว เมื่อตายไป เพราะกายแตกทำลาย ต้องเข้าถึงอบาย ทุคติ วินิบาต นรก ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ลาภ สักการะและชื่อเสียง ทารุณ ฯลฯ เธอทั้งหลายพึงศึกษาอย่างนี้แหละ ฯ

อิธาหํ ภิกฺขเว เอกจฺจํ ปุคฺคลํ ปสฺสามิ สกฺกาเรน อภิภูตํ ปริยาทินฺนจิตฺตํ กายสฺส เภทา ปรมฺมรณา อปายํ ทุคฺคตึ วินิปาตํ นิรยํ อุปปนฺนํ ฯ✎ ร่าง

Idhāhaṁ, bhikkhave, ekaccaṁ puggalaṁ passāmi sakkārena abhibhūtaṁ pariyādiṇṇacittaṁ, kāyassa bhedā paraṁ maraṇā apāyaṁ duggatiṁ vinipātaṁ nirayaṁ upapannaṁ.

Take a case where I see a certain individual whose mind is overcome and overwhelmed by honor. When their body breaks up, after death, they’re reborn in a place of loss, a bad place, the underworld, hell.

And take another case where I see a certain individual whose mind is overcome and overwhelmed by both honor and lack of honor. When their body breaks up, after death, they’re reborn in a place of loss, a bad place, the underworld, hell.

เอวํ ทารุโณ โข ภิกฺขเว ลาภสกฺการสิโลโก ฯเปฯ✎ ร่าง

Evaṁ dāruṇo kho, bhikkhave, lābhasakkārasiloko …pe…

So grim are possessions, honor, and popularity. …”

เอวญฺหิ โว ภิกฺขเว สิกฺขิตพฺพนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง

evañhi vo, bhikkhave, sikkhitabban”ti.
