[๒๒๔] ดูกรอัสสชิ อุปมาเหมือนประทีปน้ำมันจะพึงติดอยู่ได้ เพราะอาศัยน้ำมันและไส้ เชื้อไม่มีก็พึงดับ เพราะหมดน้ำมันและไส้นั้น ฉันใด. ดูกรอัสสชิ ภิกษุเมื่อเสวยเวทนามีกาย เป็นที่สุด ก็ทราบชัดว่า เสวยเวทนามีกายเป็นที่สุด เมื่อเสวยเวทนามีชีวิตเป็นที่สุด ก็ทราบชัด ว่า เสวยเวทนามีชีวิตเป็นที่สุด ทราบชัดว่า ก่อนแต่จะสิ้นชีวิต เพราะกายแตก ความเสวย อารมณ์ทั้งมวลในโลกนี้ไม่น่ายินดี จักเป็นของเย็น. @๑. เวทนาทางทวารทั้ง ๕ คือ ตา หู จมูก ลิ้น กาย @๒. เวทนาทางใจ

Suppose an oil lamp depended on oil and a wick to burn.

As the oil and the wick are used up, it would be extinguished due to not being fed.

Evameva kho, assaji, bhikkhu kāyapariyantikaṁ vedanaṁ vedayamāno ‘kāyapariyantikaṁ vedanaṁ vedayāmī’ti pajānāti. Jīvitapariyantikaṁ vedanaṁ vedayamāno ‘jīvitapariyantikaṁ vedanaṁ vedayāmī’ti pajānāti.

In the same way, feeling the end of the body draw close, they understand: ‘I feel the end of the body draw close.’ Feeling the end of life draw close, they understand: ‘I feel the end of life draw close.’

กายสฺส เภทา อุทฺธํ ชีวิตปริยาทานา อิเธว สพฺพเวทยิตานิ อนภินนฺทิตานิ สีติภวิสฺสนฺตีติ ปชานาตีติ ฯ✎ ร่าง

‘Kāyassa bhedā uddhaṁ jīvitapariyādānā idheva sabbavedayitāni anabhinanditāni sītībhavissantī’ti pajānātī”ti.

They understand: ‘When my body breaks up and my life is over, everything that’s felt, being no longer relished, will become cool right here.’”
