เนื้อความทั้งข้อ
[๑๑๐] เมื่อท่านพระฉันนะกล่าวอย่างนี้แล้ว ท่านพระมหาจุนทะได้กล่าว
กะท่านพระฉันนะว่า ดูกรท่านพระฉันนะ เพราะเหตุนั้นแล แม้ความพิจารณาเห็นนี้
เป็นคำสอนของพระผู้มีพระภาคพระองค์นั้น ท่านพึงทำไว้ในใจให้ดีตลอดกาลเป็น
นิตย์ไป ความหวั่นไหวของบุคคลที่มีตัณหา มานะและทิฐิอาศัยอยู่ ยังมีอยู่
ความหวั่นไหวย่อมไม่มีแก่บุคคลที่ไม่มีตัณหา มานะและทิฐิอาศัยอยู่ เมื่อความ
หวั่นไหวไม่มี ย่อมมีปัสสัทธิ เมื่อมีปัสสัทธิ ก็ไม่มีความเพลิดเพลิน เมื่อไม่มี
ความเพลิดเพลิน ความมาความไปก็ไม่มี เมื่อความมาความไปไม่มี จุติและอุปบัติ
ก็ไม่มี เมื่อจุติและอุปบัติไม่มี โลกนี้และโลกหน้าก็ไม่มี และระหว่างโลกทั้งสอง
ก็ไม่มี นี้แหละเป็นที่สุดแห่งทุกข์ ครั้งนั้นแล ท่านพระสารีบุตรและท่านพระมหา
จุนทะ ครั้นกล่าวสอนท่านพระฉันนะด้วยโอวาทนี้แล้ว ลุกจากอาสนะหลีกไป
ครั้นเมื่อท่านทั้งสองหลีกไปแล้วไม่นาน ท่านพระฉันนะก็นำศาตรามา ฯ
เอวํ วุตฺเต อายสฺมา มหาจุนฺโท อายสฺมนฺตํ ฉนฺนํ
เอตทโวจ✎ ร่าง
Evaṁ vutte, āyasmā mahācundo āyasmantaṁ channaṁ etadavoca:
When he said this, Venerable Mahācunda said to Venerable Channa,
ตสฺมา ติหาวุโส ฉนฺน อิทมฺปิ ตสฺส ภควโต สาสนํ
นิจฺจกปฺปํ สาธุกํ มนสิกาตพฺพํ✎ ร่าง
“tasmātiha, āvuso channa, idampi tassa bhagavato sāsanaṁ niccakappaṁ sādhukaṁ manasi kātabbaṁ:
“So, Reverend Channa, you should regularly apply your mind well to this instruction of the Buddha:
นิสฺสิตสฺส จลิตํ อนิสฺสิตสฺส
จลิตํ นตฺถิ✎ ร่าง
‘nissitassa calitaṁ, anissitassa calitaṁ natthi.
‘For the dependent there is agitation. For the independent there’s no agitation.
จลิเต อสติ ปสฺสทฺธิ โหติ✎ ร่าง
Calite asati passaddhi hoti.
When there’s no agitation there is tranquility.
ปสฺสทฺธิยา สติ
นนฺทิ น โหติ นนฺทิยา ๑- อสติ อาคติคติ น โหติ✎ ร่าง
Passaddhiyā sati nati na hoti.
When there’s tranquility there’s no inclination.
อาคติคติยา
อสติ จตูปปาโต น โหติ✎ ร่าง
Āgatigatiyā asati cutūpapāto na hoti.
When there’s no coming and going, there’s no passing away and reappearing.
จุตูปปาเต อสติ เนวิธ น หุรํ น
อุภยมนฺตเรน✎ ร่าง
Cutūpapāte asati nevidha na huraṁ na ubhayamantarena.
When there’s no passing away and reappearing, there’s no this life or the next or between the two.
เอเสวนฺโต ทุกฺขสฺสาติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Esevanto dukkhassā’”ti.
Just this is the end of suffering.’”
อถ โข อายสฺมา จ
สารีปุตฺโต อายสฺมา จ มหาจุนฺโท อายสฺมนฺตํ ฉนฺนํ อิมินา
โอวาเทน โอวทิตฺวา อุฏฺฐายาสนา ปกฺกมึสุ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Atha kho āyasmā ca sāriputto āyasmā ca mahācundo āyasmantaṁ channaṁ iminā ovādena ovaditvā uṭṭhāyāsanā pakkamiṁsu.
And when the venerables Sāriputta and Mahācunda had given Venerable Channa this advice they rose from their seat and left.

อถ โข อายสฺมา
ฉนฺโน อจิรปกฺกนฺเตสุ เตสุ อายสฺมนฺเตสุ สตฺถํ อาหเรสิ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Atha kho āyasmā channo acirapakkantesu tesu āyasmantesu satthaṁ āharesi.
Not long after those venerables had left, Venerable Channa committed suicide.
