“‘Arahattaṁ, arahattan’ti, āvuso sāriputta, vuccati.
“Reverend Sāriputta, they speak of this thing called ‘perfection’.

นุ โข อาวุโส อรหตฺตนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Katamaṁ nu kho, āvuso, arahattan”ti?
What is perfection?”
โย โข อาวุโส ราคกฺขโย โทสกฺขโย
โมหกฺขโย✎ ร่าง
“Yo kho, āvuso, rāgakkhayo dosakkhayo mohakkhayo—
“Reverend, the ending of greed, hate, and delusion
อิทํ วุจฺจติ อรหตฺตนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
idaṁ vuccati arahattan”ti.
is called perfection.”
อตฺถิ ปนาวุโส มคฺโค
อตฺถิ ปฏิปทา เอตสฺส อรหตฺตสฺส สจฺฉิกิริยายาติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“Atthi panāvuso, maggo atthi paṭipadā etassa arahattassa sacchikiriyāyā”ti?
“But, reverend, is there a path and a practice for realizing this perfection?”
อตฺถิ โข
อาวุโส มคฺโค อตฺถิ ปฏิปทา เอตสฺส อรหตฺตสฺส สจฺฉิกิริยายาติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“Atthi kho, āvuso, maggo atthi paṭipadā etassa arahattassa sacchikiriyāyā”ti.
“There is, reverend.”
กตโม ปนาวุโส มคฺโค กตมา ปฏิปทา เอตสฺส อรหตฺตสฺส
สจฺฉิกิริยายาติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“Katamo panāvuso, maggo katamā paṭipadā etassa arahattassa sacchikiriyāyā”ti?
“Well, what is it?”
อยเมว โข อาวุโส อริโย อฏฺฐงฺคิโก มคฺโค
เอตสฺส อรหตฺตสฺส สจฺฉิกิริยาย ฯ เสยฺยถีทํ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“Ayameva kho, āvuso, ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo etassa arahattassa sacchikiriyāya, seyyathidaṁ—
“It is simply this noble eightfold path, that is:
สมฺมาทิฏฺฐิ
ฯเปฯ สมฺมาสมาธิ ฯ✎ ร่าง
sammādiṭṭhi …pe… sammāsamādhi.
right view, right purpose, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right immersion.
อยํ โข อาวุโส มคฺโค อยํ ปฏิปทา
เอตสฺส อรหตฺตสฺส สจฺฉิกิริยายาติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Ayaṁ kho, āvuso, maggo, ayaṁ paṭipadā etassa arahattassa sacchikiriyāyā”ti.
This is the path, the practice, for realizing this perfection.”
ภทฺทโก อาวุโส มคฺโค
ภทฺทิกา ปฏิปทา เอตสฺส อรหตฺตสฺส สจฺฉิกิริยาย✎ ร่าง
“Bhaddako, āvuso, maggo bhaddikā paṭipadā etassa arahattassa sacchikiriyāya.
“Reverend, this is a fine path, a fine practice, for realizing this perfection.
อลญฺจ
ปนาวุโส สารีปุตฺต อปฺปมาทายาติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Alañca panāvuso sāriputta, appamādāyā”ti.
Just this much is enough for diligence.”
