Immersion Due to Enthusiasm
เจ ภิกฺขเว ภิกฺขุ นิสฺสาย ลภติ สมาธึ ลภติ
จิตฺตสฺส เอกคฺคตํ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“Chandañce, bhikkhave, bhikkhu nissāya labhati samādhiṁ, labhati cittassa ekaggataṁ—
“Mendicants, if a mendicant depends on enthusiasm in order to gain immersion, gain unification of mind,

อยํ วุจฺจติ ฉนฺทสมาธิ ฯ✎ ร่าง
ayaṁ vuccati chandasamādhi.
this is called immersion due to enthusiasm.
โส อนุปฺปนฺนานํ
ปาปกานํ อกุสลานํ ธมฺมานํ อนุปฺปาทาย ฉนฺทํ ชเนติ วายมติ
วิริยํ อารภติ จิตฺตํ ปคฺคณฺหาติ ปทหติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
So anuppannānaṁ pāpakānaṁ akusalānaṁ dhammānaṁ anuppādāya chandaṁ janeti vāyamati vīriyaṁ ārabhati cittaṁ paggaṇhāti padahati.
They generate enthusiasm, try, make an effort, exert the mind, and strive so that bad, unskillful qualities don’t arise.
อุปฺปนฺนานํ ปาปกานํ
อกุสลานํ ธมฺมานํ ปหานาย ฉนฺทํ ชเนติ วายมติ วิริยํ อารภติ
จิตฺตํ ปคฺคณฺหาติ ปทหติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Uppannānaṁ pāpakānaṁ akusalānaṁ dhammānaṁ pahānāya chandaṁ janeti vāyamati vīriyaṁ ārabhati cittaṁ paggaṇhāti padahati.
They generate enthusiasm, try, make an effort, exert the mind, and strive so that bad, unskillful qualities that have arisen are given up.
อนุปฺปนฺนานํ กุสลานํ ธมฺมานํ อุปฺปาทาย
ฉนฺทํ ชเนติ วายมติ วิริยํ อารภติ จิตฺตํ ปคฺคณฺหาติ ปทหติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Anuppannānaṁ kusalānaṁ dhammānaṁ uppādāya chandaṁ janeti vāyamati vīriyaṁ ārabhati cittaṁ paggaṇhāti padahati.
They generate enthusiasm, try, make an effort, exert the mind, and strive so that skillful qualities arise.
อุปฺปนฺนานํ กุสลานํ ธมฺมานํ ฐิติยา อสมฺโมสาย ภิยฺโยภาวาย
เวปุลฺลาย ภาวนาย ปาริปูริยา ฉนฺทํ ชเนติ วายมติ วิริยํ อารภติ
จิตฺตํ ปคฺคณฺหาติ ปทหติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Uppannānaṁ kusalānaṁ dhammānaṁ ṭhitiyā asammosāya bhiyyobhāvāya vepullāya bhāvanāya pāripūriyā chandaṁ janeti vāyamati vīriyaṁ ārabhati cittaṁ paggaṇhāti padahati.
They generate enthusiasm, try, make an effort, exert the mind, and strive so that skillful qualities that have arisen remain, are not lost, but increase, mature, and are fulfilled by development.
อิเม วุจฺจนฺติ ปธานสงฺขาราติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Ime vuccanti ‘padhānasaṅkhārā’ti.
These are called active efforts.
อิติ
อยํ จ ฉนฺโท อยํ จ ฉนฺทสมาธิ อิเม จ ปธานสงฺขารา ฯ✎ ร่าง
Iti ayañca chando, ayañca chandasamādhi, ime ca padhānasaṅkhārā—
And so there is this enthusiasm, this immersion due to enthusiasm, and these active efforts.
อยํ
วุจฺจติ ภิกฺขเว ฉนฺทสมาธิปธานสงฺขารสมนฺนาคโต อิทฺธิปาโท ฯ✎ ร่าง
ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, chandasamādhippadhānasaṅkhārasamannāgato iddhipādo.
This is called the basis of psychic power that has immersion due to enthusiasm, and active effort.
