[๑๔๗๑] ดูกรอานนท์ ข้อที่บุคคลเกิดมาเป็นมนุษย์แล้วพึงกระทำกาละ มิใช่เป็นของ น่าอัศจรรย์ ถ้าเมื่อผู้นั้นๆ กระทำกาละแล้ว เธอทั้งหลายพึงเข้ามาหาเราแล้วสอบถามเนื้อความ นั้น ข้อนี้เป็นความลำบากของตถาคต เพราะฉะนั้นแหละ เราจักแสดงธรรมปริยายชื่อธรรมาทาส (แว่นส่องธรรม) ที่อริยสาวกประกอบแล้ว เมื่อหวังอยู่ พึงพยากรณ์ตนด้วยตนเองได้ว่า เรามี นรก กำเนิดสัตว์ดิรัจฉาน ปิตติวิสัย อบาย ทุคติ วินิบาต สิ้นแล้ว เราเป็นพระโสดาบัน มีความไม่ตกต่ำเป็นธรรมดา เป็นผู้เที่ยงที่จะตรัสรู้ในเบื้องหน้า.

อนจฺฉริยํ โข ปเนตํ อานนฺท ยํ มนุสฺสภูโต กาลํ กเรยฺย✎ ร่าง

Anacchariyaṁ kho panetaṁ, ānanda, yaṁ manussabhūto kālaṁ kareyya;

It’s no wonder that a human being should pass away.

ตสฺมึ ตสฺมึ เจ มํ กาลกเต อุปสงฺกมิตฺวา เอตมตฺถํ ปฏิปุจฺฉิสฺสถ ฯ วิเหสาเวสา ๒- อสฺส อานนฺท ตถาคตสฺส ฯ✎ ร่าง

tasmiṁ tasmiñce maṁ kālaṅkate upasaṅkamitvā etamatthaṁ paṭipucchissatha. Vihesā pesā, ānanda, assa tathāgatassa.

But if you should come and ask me about it each and every time someone dies that would be a bother for me.

ตสฺมา ติหานนฺท ธมฺมาทาสํ นาม ธมฺมปริยายํ เทเสสฺสามิ เยน สมนฺนาคโต อริยสาวโก อากงฺขมาโน อตฺตนาว อตฺตานํ พฺยากเรยฺย✎ ร่าง

Tasmātihānanda, dhammādāsaṁ nāma dhammapariyāyaṁ desessāmi; yena samannāgato ariyasāvako ākaṅkhamāno attanāva attānaṁ byākareyya:

So Ānanda, I will teach you the explanation of the Dhamma named ‘the mirror of the teaching’. A noble disciple who has this may declare of themselves:

ขีณนิรโยมฺหิ ขีณติรจฺฉานโยนิโย ขีณปิตฺติวิสโย ขีณาปายทุคฺคติวินิปาโต โสตาปนฺโนหมสฺมิ อวินิปาตธมฺโม นิยโต สมฺโพธิปรายโน ฯ✎ ร่าง

‘khīṇanirayomhi khīṇatiracchānayoni khīṇapettivisayo khīṇāpāyaduggativinipāto, sotāpannohamasmi avinipātadhammo niyato sambodhiparāyaṇo’.

‘I’ve finished with rebirth in hell, the animal realm, and the ghost realm. I’ve finished with all places of loss, bad places, the underworld. I am a stream-enterer! I’m not liable to be reborn in the underworld, and am assured, destined for awakening.’
