[๗๐๙] ส่วนพระผู้มีพระภาคทรงเข้าจำพรรษา ณ เวฬุวคาม นั้นแหละ เมื่อพระผู้มี
พระภาคทรงเข้าจำพรรษาแล้ว อาพาธกล้าบังเกิดขึ้น เวทนาอย่างหนักใกล้มรณะเป็นไปอยู่ ได้
ยินว่า ณ ที่นั้น พระผู้มีพระภาคทรงพระดำรงสติสัมปชัญญะ ทรงอดกลั้น ไม่ทรงพรั่นพรึง
ครั้งนั้น พระองค์ทรงพระดำริว่า การที่เรายังไม่บอกภิกษุผู้อุปัฏฐาก ยังไม่อำลาภิกษุสงฆ์ แล้ว
ปรินิพพานเสียนั้น หาสมควรแก่เราไม่ ไฉนหนอ เราพึงขับไล่อาพาธนี้เสียด้วยความเพียร แล้ว
ดำรงชีวิตสังขารอยู่ ครั้งนั้น พระผู้มีพระภาคทรงขับไล่พระประชวรนั้นด้วยความเพียร แล้วทรง
ดำรงชีวิตสังขารอยู่ ครั้งนั้น พระผู้มีพระภาคทรงหายจากพระประชวรแล้ว ทรงหายจากความไข้
ไม่นาน ประทับนั่งบนอาสนะที่เขาปูลาดไว้ในร่มแห่งวิหาร.
ภควา ปน ตตฺเถว เวลุวคามเก วสฺสํ อุปคจฺฉิ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Bhagavā pana tattheva veḷuvagāmake vassaṁ upagacchi.
while the Buddha commenced the rainy season residence right there in the little village of Beluva.
อถ โข ภควโต วสฺสูปคตสฺส ขโร อาพาโธ อุปฺปชฺชติ ๓- พาฬฺหา
เวทนา วตฺตนฺติ มรณนฺติกา ฯ✎ ร่าง
Atha kho bhagavato vassūpagatassa kharo ābādho uppajji, bāḷhā vedanā vattanti māraṇantikā.
After the Buddha had commenced the rainy season residence, he fell severely ill, struck by dreadful pains, close to death.

ตตฺร สุทํ ภควา สโต สมฺปชาโน
อธิวาเสติ ๔- อวิหญฺญมาโน ฯ✎ ร่าง
Tatra sudaṁ bhagavā sato sampajāno adhivāsesi avihaññamāno.
But he endured unbothered, with mindfulness and situational awareness.
อถ โข ภควโต เอตทโหสิ✎ ร่าง
Atha kho bhagavato etadahosi:
Then it occurred to the Buddha:

โข ปน เมตมฺปฏิรูปํ โยหมนามนฺเตตฺวา อุปฏฺฐาเก อนปโลเกตฺวา
ภิกฺขุสงฺฆํ ปรินิพฺพาเยยฺยํ✎ ร่าง
“na kho me taṁ patirūpaṁ, yohaṁ anāmantetvā upaṭṭhāke anapaloketvā bhikkhusaṅghaṁ parinibbāyeyyaṁ.
“It would not be appropriate for me to be fully extinguished before informing my supporters and taking leave of the mendicant Saṅgha.
ยนฺนูนาหํ อิมํ อาพาธํ วิริเยน ปฏิปฺปณาเมตฺวา
ชีวิตสงฺขารํ อธิฏฺฐาย วิหเรยฺยนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Yannūnāhaṁ imaṁ ābādhaṁ vīriyena paṭipaṇāmetvā jīvitasaṅkhāraṁ adhiṭṭhāya vihareyyan”ti.
Why don’t I forcefully suppress this illness, stabilize the life force, and live on?”
อถ โข ภควา ตํ อาพาธํ
วิริเยน ปฏิปฺปณาเมตฺวา ชีวิตสงฺขารํ อธิฏฺฐาย วิหาสิ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Atha kho bhagavā taṁ ābādhaṁ vīriyena paṭipaṇāmetvā jīvitasaṅkhāraṁ adhiṭṭhāya vihāsi.
So that is what he did.

Atha kho bhagavato so ābādho paṭippassambhi.
Then the Buddha’s illness died down.

Atha kho bhagavā gilānā vuṭṭhito aciravuṭṭhito gelaññā vihārā nikkhamitvā vihārapacchāyāyaṁ paññatte āsane nisīdi.
Soon after the Buddha had recovered from that sickness, he left his dwelling and sat in the shade of the porch on the seat spread out.
