[๒๓๔] ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุเจ้าอาวาสประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕
ประการ ย่อมเป็นผู้มีอุปการะมากแก่อาวาส ๕ ประการเป็นไฉน คือ เป็นผู้
มีศีล ฯลฯ สมาทาน ศึกษาอยู่ในสิกขาบททั้งหลาย ๑ เป็นผู้พหูสูต ฯลฯ
บริสุทธิ์บริบูรณ์สิ้นเชิง ๑ ปฏิสังขรณ์เสนาสนะที่หักพัง ๑ ก็ภิกษุสงฆ์หมู่ใหญ่
เข้ามาแล้ว มีภิกษุมาจากแคว้นต่างๆ ย่อมเข้าไปบอกพวกคฤหัสถ์ว่า ดูกรท่าน
ผู้มีอายุทั้งหลาย มีภิกษุสงฆ์หมู่ใหญ่เข้ามาแล้ว มีภิกษุมาจากแคว้นต่างๆ ขอ
เชิญท่านทั้งหลายทำบุญ เป็นสมัยทำบุญ ๑ เป็นผู้ได้ตามความปรารถนา ได้โดย
ไม่ยาก ไม่ลำบาก ซึ่งฌาน ๔ อันมีในจิตยิ่ง เป็นเครื่องอยู่เป็นสุขในปัจจุบัน ๑
ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุเจ้าอาวาสประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕ ประการนี้แล ย่อมเป็น
ผู้มีอุปการะมากแก่อาวาส ฯ

“Mendicants, a resident mendicant with five qualities is very helpful to the monastery.

สีลวา โหติ ฯเปฯ

Sīlavā hoti …pe… samādāya sikkhati sikkhāpadesu;
They’re ethical, restrained in the monastic code, conducting themselves well and resorting for alms in suitable places. Seeing danger in the slightest fault, they keep the rules they’ve undertaken.
พหุสฺสุโต โหติ ฯเปฯ ทิฏฺฐิยา
สุปฺปฏิวิทฺธา🤖 AI จับคู่
bahussuto hoti …pe… diṭṭhiyā suppaṭividdhā;
They’re very learned, remembering and keeping what they’ve learned. These teachings are good in the beginning, good in the middle, and good in the end, meaningful and well-phrased, describing a spiritual practice that’s totally full and pure. They are very learned in such teachings, remembering them, reciting them, mentally scrutinizing them, and penetrating them theoretically.
ขณฺฑผุลฺลํ ปฏิสงฺขโรติ🤖 AI จับคู่
khaṇḍaphullaṁ paṭisaṅkharoti;
They repair what is decayed and damaged.
มหา โข ปน ภิกฺขุสงฺโฆ
อภิกฺกนฺโต นานาเวรชฺชกา ภิกฺขู คิหีนํ อุปสงฺกมิตฺวา อาโรเจติ🤖 AI จับคู่
mahā kho pana bhikkhusaṅgho abhikkanto nānāverajjakā bhikkhū gihīnaṁ upasaṅkamitvā āroceti:
When a large mendicant Saṅgha is arriving with mendicants from abroad, they go to the lay people and announce:
มหา โข อาวุโส ภิกฺขุสงฺโฆ อภิกฺกนฺโต นานาเวรชฺชกา ภิกฺขู กโรถ
ปุญฺญานิ สมโย ปุญฺญานิ กาตุนฺติ🤖 AI จับคู่
‘mahā kho, āvuso, bhikkhusaṅgho abhikkanto nānāverajjakā bhikkhū, karotha puññāni, samayo puññāni kātun’ti;
‘A large mendicant Saṅgha is arriving with mendicants from abroad. Make merit! Now is the time to make merit!’
จตุนฺนํ ฌานานํ อาภิเจตสิกานํ
ทิฏฺฐธมฺมสุขวิหารานํ นิกามลาภี โหติ อกิจฺฉลาภี อกสิรลาภี🤖 AI จับคู่
catunnaṁ jhānānaṁ ābhicetasikānaṁ diṭṭhadhammasukhavihārānaṁ nikāmalābhī hoti akicchalābhī akasiralābhī.
They get the four absorptions—blissful meditations in this life that belong to the higher mind—when they want, without trouble or difficulty.
อิเมหิ
โข ภิกฺขเว ปญฺจหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต อาวาสิโก ภิกฺขุ อาวาสสฺส

Imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu āvāsassa bahūpakāro hotī”ti.
A resident mendicant with these five qualities is very helpful to the monastery.”
