‘kapaṇaṁ mānusakaṁ rajjaṁ dibbaṁ sukhaṁ upanidhāyā’ti.
‘Human kingship is a poor thing compared to the happiness of the gods.’
ปาณํ น หญฺเญ น จาทินฺนมาทิเย🤖 AI จับคู่
Pāṇaṁ na haññe na cadinnamādiye,
You shouldn’t kill living creatures, or steal,
มุสา น ภาเส น จ มชฺชโป สิยา🤖 AI จับคู่
Musā na bhāse na ca majjapo siyā;
or lie, or drink liquor.
อพฺรหฺมจริยา วิรเมยฺย เมถุนา🤖 AI จับคู่
Abrahmacariyā virameyya methunā,
Be chaste, refraining from sex,
รตฺตึ น ภุญฺเชยฺย วิกาลโภชนํ🤖 AI จับคู่
Rattiṁ na bhuñjeyya vikālabhojanaṁ.
and don’t eat at night, the wrong time.
มาลํ น ธารเย น จ คนฺธมาจเร🤖 AI จับคู่
Mālaṁ na dhāre na ca gandhamācare,
Not wearing garlands or applying fragrance,
มญฺเจ ฉมายํว สเยถ สนฺถเต🤖 AI จับคู่
Mañce chamāyaṁ va sayetha santhate;
you should sleep on a low bed, or a mat on the ground.
เอตญฺหิ อฏฺฐงฺคิกมาหุโปสถํ🤖 AI จับคู่
Etañhi aṭṭhaṅgikamāhuposathaṁ,
This is the eight-factored sabbath, they say,
พุทฺเธน ทุกฺขนฺตคุนา ปกาสิตํ🤖 AI จับคู่
Buddhena dukkhantagunā pakāsitaṁ.
explained by the Buddha, who has gone to suffering’s end.
จนฺโท จ สูโร ๑- จ อุโภ สุทสฺสนา🤖 AI จับคู่
Cando ca suriyo ca ubho sudassanā,
The moon and sun are both fair to see,

Obhāsayaṁ anupariyanti yāvatā;
radiating as far as they revolve.

Tamonudā te pana antalikkhagā,
Those dispellers of darkness, travellers in midair,
นเภ ปภาสนฺติ ทิสา วิโรจนา🤖 AI จับคู่
Nabhe pabhāsanti disāvirocanā.
shine in the firmament, lighting up the quarters.
เอตมฺหิ ยํ วิชฺชติ อนฺตเร ธนํ🤖 AI จับคู่
Etasmiṁ yaṁ vijjati antare dhanaṁ,
All of the wealth that’s found in this realm—

Muttā maṇi veḷuriyañca bhaddakaṁ;
pearls, gems, fine beryl too,
สิงฺคี สุวณฺณํ อถวาปิ กาญฺจนํ🤖 AI จับคู่
Siṅgīsuvaṇṇaṁ atha vāpi kañcanaṁ,
mountain gold or lustrous gold,
ยํ ชาตรูปํ หฏกนฺติ วุจฺจติ🤖 AI จับคู่
Yaṁ jātarūpaṁ haṭakanti vuccati.
or the native gold called ‘coruscant’—
อฏฺฐงฺคุเปตสฺส อุโปสถสฺส🤖 AI จับคู่
Aṭṭhaṅgupetassa uposathassa,
they’re not worth a sixteenth part
กลมฺปิ เต นานุภวนฺติ โสฬสึ🤖 AI จับคู่
Kalampi te nānubhavanti soḷasiṁ;
of the sabbath with its eight factors,
จนฺทปฺปภา ตารคณาว ๒- สพฺเพ🤖 AI จับคู่
Candappabhā tāragaṇā ca sabbe.
as starlight cannot rival the moon.
ตสฺมา หิ นารี จ นโร จ สีลวา🤖 AI จับคู่
Tasmā hi nārī ca naro ca sīlavā,
So an ethical woman or man,
อฏฺฐงฺคุเปตํ อุปวสฺสุโปสถํ🤖 AI จับคู่
Aṭṭhaṅgupetaṁ upavassuposathaṁ;
who has observed the eight-factored sabbath,
ปุญฺญานิ กตฺวาน สุขุทฺรยานิ🤖 AI จับคู่
Puññāni katvāna sukhudrayāni,
having made merit whose outcome is happiness,
อนินฺทิตา สคฺคมุเปนฺติ ฐานนฺติ ฯ🤖 AI จับคู่
Aninditā saggamupenti ṭhānan”ti.
blameless, they go to a heavenly place.”
