Brāhmaṇadhammayāgasutta
The Brahmin’s Offering of the Teaching
วุตฺตํ เหตํ ภควตา วุตฺตมรหตาติ เม สุตํ✎ ร่าง
Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:
This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

อหมสฺมิ ภิกฺขเว พฺราหฺมโณ ยาจโยโค สทา ปยตปาณี
อนฺติมเทหธโร อนุตฺตโร ภิสโก สลฺลกตฺโต✎ ร่าง
“Ahamasmi, bhikkhave, brāhmaṇo yācayogo sadā payatapāṇi antimadehadharo anuttaro bhisakko sallakatto.
“I, mendicants, am a brahmin, committed to charity, always open-handed, bearing my final body, a healer, a surgeon.
ตสฺส เม ตุเมฺห ปุตฺตา
โอรสา มุขโต ชาตา ธมฺมชา ธมฺมนิมฺมิตา ธมฺมทายาทา โน
อามิสทายาทา ฯ✎ ร่าง
Tassa me tumhe puttā orasā mukhato jātā dhammajā dhammanimmitā dhammadāyādā, no āmisadāyādā.
You are my true-born sons, born from my mouth, born of the teaching, created by the teaching, heirs in the teaching, not in things of the flesh.
เทฺวมานิ ภิกฺขเว ทานานิ✎ ร่าง
Dvemāni, bhikkhave, dānāni—
There are these two gifts.

อามิสทานญฺจ
ธมฺมทานญฺจ✎ ร่าง
āmisadānañca dhammadānañca.
A gift of things of the flesh and a gift of the teaching.
เอตทคฺคํ ภิกฺขเว อิเมสํ ทฺวินฺนํ ทานานํ ยทิทํ
ธมฺมทานํ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ dānānaṁ yadidaṁ dhammadānaṁ.
The better of these two gifts is the gift of the teaching.
เทฺวเม ภิกฺขเว สํวิภาคา✎ ร่าง
Dveme, bhikkhave, saṁvibhāgā—
There are these two kinds of sharing.
อามิสสํวิภาโค จ
ธมฺมสํวิภาโค จ✎ ร่าง
āmisasaṁvibhāgo ca dhammasaṁvibhāgo ca.
Sharing things of the flesh and sharing the teaching.
เอตทคฺคํ ภิกฺขเว อิเมสํ ทฺวินฺนํ สํวิภาคานํ ยทิทํ
ธมฺมสํวิภาโค ฯ✎ ร่าง
Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ saṁvibhāgānaṁ yadidaṁ dhammasaṁvibhāgo.
The better of these two kinds of sharing is sharing the teaching.

Dveme, bhikkhave, anuggahā—
There are these two kinds of support.
อามิสานุคฺคโห จ
ธมฺมานุคฺคโห จ✎ ร่าง
āmisānuggaho ca dhammānuggaho ca.
Support in things of the flesh and support in the teaching.
เอตทคฺคํ ภิกฺขเว อิเมสํ ทฺวินฺนํ อนุคฺคหานํ
ยทิทํ ธมฺมานุคฺคโห ฯ✎ ร่าง
Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ anuggahānaṁ yadidaṁ dhammānuggaho.
The better of these two kinds of support is support in the teaching.
เทฺวเม ภิกฺขเว ยาคา✎ ร่าง
Dveme, bhikkhave, yāgā—
There are these two offerings.
อามิสยาโค จ
ธมฺมยาโค จ✎ ร่าง
āmisayāgo ca dhammayāgo ca.
An offering of things of the flesh and an offering of the teaching.
เอตทคฺคํ ภิกฺขเว อิเมสํ ทฺวินฺนํ ยาคานํ ยทิทํ
ธมฺมยาโคติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ yāgānaṁ yadidaṁ dhammayāgo”ti.
The better of these two offerings is an offering of the teaching.”
เอตมตฺถํ ภควา อโวจ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca.
The Buddha spoke this matter.
ตตฺเถตํ อิติ วุจฺจติ✎ ร่าง
Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:
On this it is said:
โย ธมฺมยาคํ อยชี ๑- อมจฺฉรี✎ ร่าง
“Yo dhammayāgaṁ ayajī amaccharī,
“The Realized One, compassionate for all living creatures,

ตถาคโต สพฺพสตฺตานุกมฺปี✎ ร่าง
Tathāgato sabbabhūtānukampī;
unstintingly offers teaching.
ตํ ตาทิสํ เทวมนุสฺสเสฏฺฐํ✎ ร่าง
Taṁ tādisaṁ devamanussaseṭṭhaṁ,
Sentient beings revere him, first among gods and humans,
สตฺตา นมสฺสนฺติ ภวสฺส ปารคุนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Sattā namassanti bhavassa pāragun”ti.
who has gone beyond rebirth.”
อยมฺปิ อตฺโถ วุตฺโต ภควตา อิติ เม สุตนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.
This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
