Then Sabhiya set out for Rājagaha.

Anupubbena cārikaṁ caramāno yena rājagahaṁ veḷuvanaṁ kalandakanivāpo, yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavatā saddhiṁ sammodi.
Traveling stage by stage, he came to Rājagaha, the Bamboo Grove, the squirrels’ feeding ground. He went up to the Buddha and exchanged greetings with him.

Sammodanīyaṁ kathaṁ sāraṇīyaṁ vītisāretvā ekamantaṁ nisīdi.
When the greetings and polite conversation were over, he sat down to one side,

Ekamantaṁ nisinno kho sabhiyo paribbājako bhagavantaṁ gāthāya ajjhabhāsi—
and addressed the Buddha in verse:
กงฺขี เวจิกิจฺฉี อาคมํ (อิติ สภิโย✎ ร่าง
“Kaṅkhī vecikicchī āgamaṁ,
“I’ve come full of doubts and uncertainties,”

said Sabhiya,
ปเญฺห ปุจฺฉิตุํ อภิกงฺขมาโน✎ ร่าง
Pañhe pucchituṁ abhikaṅkhamāno;
“wishing to ask some questions.
เตสนฺตกโร ภวาหิ ปเญฺห เม ปุฏฺโฐ✎ ร่าง
Tesantakaro bhavāhi pañhe me puṭṭho,
Please solve them for me.
อนุปุพฺพํ อนุธมฺมํ พฺยากโรหิ เม ฯ✎ ร่าง
Anupubbaṁ anudhammaṁ byākarohi me”.
Answer my questions in turn, in accordance with the truth.”
ทูรโต อาคโตสิ สภิยาติ ภควา✎ ร่าง
“Dūrato āgatosi sabhiya,
“You have come from afar, Sabhiya,”

ปเญฺห ปุจฺฉิตุํ อภิกงฺขมาโน✎ ร่าง
Pañhe pucchituṁ abhikaṅkhamāno;
“wishing to ask some questions.
เตสนฺตกโร ภวามิ ปเญฺห เต ปุฏฺโฐ✎ ร่าง
Tesantakaro bhavāmi pañhe te puṭṭho,
I shall solve them for you,
อนุปุพฺพํ อนุธมฺมํ พฺยากโรมิ เต ฯ✎ ร่าง
Anupubbaṁ anudhammaṁ byākaromi te.

ปุจฺฉ มํ สภิย ปญฺหํ✎ ร่าง
Puccha maṁ sabhiya pañhaṁ,
