[๔๐๔] ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ฯลฯ พึงตอบเขาว่า การพิจารณาเห็น
เนืองๆ ว่า อรูปภพละเอียดกว่ารูปภพ นี้เป็นข้อที่ ๑ การพิจารณาเห็นเนืองๆ ว่า
นิโรธละเอียดกว่าอรูปภพ นี้เป็นข้อ ๒ ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุผู้พิจารณาเห็น
เนืองๆ ซึ่งธรรมเป็นธรรม ๒ อย่างโดยชอบอย่างนี้ ฯลฯ จึงได้ตรัสคาถา
ประพันธ์ต่อไปอีกว่า
สัตว์เหล่าใดผู้เข้าถึงรูปภพ และตั้งอยู่ในอรูปภพ สัตว์
เหล่านั้นเมื่อยังไม่รู้ชัดซึ่งนิพพานก็ยังเป็นผู้จะต้องมาสู่ภพใหม่
ส่วนชนเหล่าใดกำหนดรู้รูปภพแล้ว (ไม่) ดำรงอยู่ด้วยดี
ในอรูปภพ ชนเหล่านั้นน้อมไปในนิพพานทีเดียว เป็นผู้ละ

And how could there be?
รูเปหิ ภิกฺขเว อรูปา ๓- สนฺตตราติ อยเมกานุปสฺสนา✎ ร่าง
Rūpehi, bhikkhave, arūpā santatarāti, ayamekānupassanā.
‘Formless states are more peaceful than states of form’: this is the first contemplation.
อรูเปหิ
นิโรโธ สนฺตตโรติ อยํ ทุติยานุปสฺสนา✎ ร่าง
Arūpehi nirodho santataroti, ayaṁ dutiyānupassanā.
‘Cessation is more peaceful than formless states’: this is the second contemplation.
เอวํ สมฺมาทฺวยตานุปสฺสิโน
ฯเปฯ✎ ร่าง
Evaṁ sammā …pe…
When a mendicant meditates in this way they can expect enlightenment or non-return.”
อถาปรํ เอตทโวจ สตฺถา✎ ร่าง
athāparaṁ etadavoca satthā:
Then the Teacher went on to say:
เย จ รูปูปคา สตฺตา✎ ร่าง
“Ye ca rūpūpagā sattā,
“There are beings in the realm of luminous form,
เย จ อรูปฏฺฐายิโน✎ ร่าง
Ye ca arūpaṭṭhāyino;
and others stuck in the formless.
นิโรธํ อปฺปชานนฺตา✎ ร่าง
Nirodhaṁ appajānantā,
Not understanding cessation,
อาคนฺตาโร เต ปุนพฺภวํ✎ ร่าง
Āgantāro punabbhavaṁ.
they return in future lives.
เย จ รูเป ปริญฺญาย✎ ร่าง
Ye ca rūpe pariññāya,
But the people who completely understand form,

อรูเปสุ สุสณฺฐิตา✎ ร่าง
Arūpesu asaṇṭhitā;
not stuck in the formless,
นิโรเธ เยว มุจฺจนฺติ✎ ร่าง
Nirodhe ye vimuccanti,
released in cessation—
เต ชนา มจฺจุหายิโนติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Te janā maccuhāyinoti.
they are conquerors of death.”
