Evaṁ me sutaṁ—
So I have heard.

เอกํ สมยํ ภควา สาวตฺถิยํ วิหรติ
เชตวเน อนาถปิณฺฑิกสฺส อาราเม ฯ✎ ร่าง
ekaṁ samayaṁ bhagavā sāvatthiyaṁ viharati jetavane anāthapiṇḍikassa ārāme.
At one time the Buddha was staying near Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s monastery.
เตน โข ปน สมเยน
ยโสชปฺปมุขานิ ปญฺจมตฺตานิ ภิกฺขุสตานิ สาวตฺถึ อนุปฺปตฺตานิ
โหนฺติ ภควนฺตํ ทสฺสนาย ฯ✎ ร่าง
Tena kho pana samayena yasojappamukhāni pañcamattāni bhikkhusatāni sāvatthiṁ anuppattāni honti bhagavantaṁ dassanāya.
Now at that time five hundred mendicants headed by Yasoja arrived at Sāvatthī to see the Buddha.
เต ๒- จ อาคนฺตุกา ภิกฺขู เนวาสิเกหิ
ภิกฺขูหิ สทฺธึ ปฏิสมฺโมทมานา เสนาสนานิ ปญฺญาปยมานา
ปตฺตจีวรานิ ปฏิสามยมานา อุจฺจาสทฺทา มหาสทฺทา

Tedha kho āgantukā bhikkhū nevāsikehi bhikkhūhi saddhiṁ paṭisammodamānā senāsanāni paññāpayamānā pattacīvarāni paṭisāmayamānā uccāsaddā mahāsaddā ahesuṁ.
At that, those visiting mendicants, while exchanging pleasantries with the resident mendicants, preparing their lodgings, and putting away their bowls and robes, made a colossal racket.
อถ โข ภควา อายสฺมนฺตํ อานนฺทํ อามนฺเตสิ✎ ร่าง
Atha kho bhagavā āyasmantaṁ ānandaṁ āmantesi:
Then the Buddha said to Venerable Ānanda,
เก
ปเนเต อานนฺท อุจฺจาสทฺทา มหาสทฺทา เกวฏฺฏา มญฺเญ
มจฺฉวิโลเปติ ๑- ฯ✎ ร่าง
“ke panete, ānanda, uccāsaddā mahāsaddā kevaṭṭā maññe macchavilope”ti?
“Ānanda, who’s making that colossal racket? You’d think it was fishermen hauling in a catch!”
เอตานิ ภนฺเต ยโสชปฺปมุขานิ ปญฺจมตฺตานิ
ภิกฺขุสตานิ สาวตฺถึ อนุปฺปตฺตานิ ภควนฺตํ ทสฺสนาย✎ ร่าง
“Etāni, bhante, yasojappamukhāni pañcamattāni bhikkhusatāni sāvatthiṁ anuppattāni bhagavantaṁ dassanāya.
“Sir, those five hundred mendicants headed by Yasoja have arrived at Sāvatthī to see the Buddha.
เต ๒- จ
อาคนฺตุกา ภิกฺขู เนวาสิเกหิ ภิกฺขูหิ สทฺธึ ปฏิสมฺโมทมานา

Tete āgantukā bhikkhū nevāsikehi bhikkhūhi saddhiṁ paṭisammodamānā senāsanāni paññāpayamānā pattacīvarāni paṭisāmayamānā uccāsaddā mahāsaddā”ti.

เตนหานนฺท มม วจเนน เต
ภิกฺขู อามนฺเตหิ✎ ร่าง
“Tenahānanda, mama vacanena te bhikkhū āmantehi:
“Well then, Ānanda, in my name tell those mendicants that
สตฺถา อายสฺมนฺเต อามนฺเตตีติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
‘satthā āyasmante āmantetī’”ti.
the teacher summons them.”
เอวํ ภนฺเตติ โข อายสฺมา อานนฺโท ภควโต ปฏิสฺสุตฺวา
เยน เต ภิกฺขู เตนุปสงฺกมิ อุปสงฺกมิตฺวา เต ภิกฺขู เอตทโวจ✎ ร่าง
“Evaṁ, bhante”ti kho āyasmā ānando bhagavato paṭissutvā yena te bhikkhū tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā te bhikkhū etadavoca:
“Yes, sir,” Ānanda replied. He went to those mendicants and said,

อายสฺมนฺเต อามนฺเตตีติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“satthā āyasmante āmantetī”ti.
“Venerables, the teacher summons you.”
เอวมาวุโสติ โข เต ภิกฺขู อายสฺมโต
อานนฺทสฺส ปฏิสฺสุตฺวา เยน ภควา เตนุปสงฺกมึสุ อุปสงฺกมิตฺวา
ภควนฺตํ อภิวาเทตฺวา เอกมนฺตํ นิสีทึสุ ฯ เอกมนฺตํ นิสินฺเน โข
เต ภิกฺขู ภควา เอตทโวจ✎ ร่าง
“Evamāvuso”ti kho te bhikkhū āyasmato ānandassa paṭissutvā yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkamiṁsu; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavantaṁ abhivādetvā ekamantaṁ nisīdiṁsu. Ekamantaṁ nisinne kho te bhikkhū bhagavā etadavoca:
“Yes, reverend,” replied those mendicants. Then they rose from their seats and went to the Buddha, bowed, and sat down to one side. The Buddha said to them,
กินฺนุ ตุเมฺห ภิกฺขเว อุจฺจาสทฺทา
มหาสทฺทา เกวฏฺฏา มญฺเญ มจฺฉวิโลเปติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“Kiṁ nu tumhe, bhikkhave, uccāsaddā mahāsaddā, kevaṭṭā maññe macchavilope”ti?
“Mendicants, what’s with that colossal racket? You’d think it was fishermen hauling in a catch!”
