[๒๖๘] การฟังดีเป็นเหตุให้ฟังเจริญ การฟังเป็นเหตุให้เจริญปัญญา บุคคลจะรู้
ประโยชน์ก็เพราะปัญญา ประโยชน์ที่บุคคลรู้แล้ว ย่อมนำสุขมาให้
ภิกษุควรซ่องเสพเสนาสนะอันสงัด ควรประพฤติธรรมอันเป็นเหตุให้จิต
หลุดพ้นจากสังโยชน์ ถ้ายังไม่ได้ประสบความยินดีในเสนาสนะอันสงัด
และธรรมนั้น ก็ควรเป็นผู้มีสติรักษาตนอยู่ในหมู่สงฆ์.

“Sussūsā sutavaddhanī,
It’s from eagerness to learn that learning grows;

สุตํ ปญฺญาย วฑฺฒนํ✎ ร่าง
sutaṁ paññāya vaddhanaṁ;
when you’re learned, wisdom grows;
ปญฺญาย อตฺถํ ชานาติ✎ ร่าง
Paññāya atthaṁ jānāti,
by wisdom, you know the goal;
ญาโต อตฺโถ สุขาวโห ฯ✎ ร่าง
ñāto attho sukhāvaho.
knowing the goal brings happiness.
เสเวถ ปนฺตานิ เสนาสนานิ✎ ร่าง
Sevetha pantāni senāsanāni,
You should frequent remote lodgings
จเรยฺย สํโยชนวิปฺปโมกฺขํ✎ ร่าง
Careyya saṁyojanavippamokkhaṁ;
and practice to be released from fetters.
สเจ รตึ นาธิคจฺเฉยฺย ตตฺถ✎ ร่าง
Sace ratiṁ nādhigaccheyya tattha,
If you don’t find enjoyment there,
สงฺเฆ วเส รกฺขิตตฺโต สตีมาติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Saṅghe vase rakkhitatto satimā”ti.
live in the Saṅgha, self-protected and mindful.

People who act harshly—

nānattena ca kammunā;
attacking people,

Manusse uparundhanti,
binding them with rope,

pharusūpakkamā janā;
hurting them in all kinds of ways—
—
Tepi tattheva kīranti,
they’re treated in the same way;
—
na hi kammaṁ panassati.
their deeds don’t vanish.
—
Yaṁ karoti naro kammaṁ,
Whatever deeds a person does,
—
Kalyāṇaṁ yadi pāpakaṁ;
whether good or bad,
—
Tassa tasseva dāyādo,
they are the heir to each
—
Yaṁ yaṁ kammaṁ pakubbatī”ti.
and every deed they do.
