อถโข โส เกวฏฺฏ ภิกฺขุ เยน พฺรหฺมกายิกา เทวา
เตนุปสงฺกมิ อุปสงฺกมิตฺวา พฺรหฺมกายิเก เทเว เอตทโวจ✎ ร่าง
Atha kho so, kevaṭṭa, bhikkhu yena brahmakāyikā devā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā brahmakāyike deve etadavoca:
ดูกรเกวัฏฏ์ ต่อนั้น เธอได้เข้าไปหาเทวดาผู้นับเนื่องในหมู่พรหมโลกแล้วถามว่า
ท่านทั้งหลาย มหาภูตรูปทั้ง ๔ คือ ปฐวีธาตุ อาโปธาตุ เตโชธาตุ วาโยธาตุ เหล่านี้ ย่อมดับ

Then he approached the gods of the Divinity’s host and said,
กตฺถ นุ
โข อาวุโส อิเม จตฺตาโร ฯเปฯ วาโยธาตูติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
‘kattha nu kho, āvuso, ime cattāro mahābhūtā aparisesā nirujjhanti, seyyathidaṁ—pathavīdhātu āpodhātu tejodhātu vāyodhātū’ti?
‘Reverends, where do these four principal states cease without remainder, namely, the elements of earth, water, fire, and air?’
เอวํ วุตฺเต
เกวฏฺฏ พฺรหฺมกายิกา เทวา ตํ ภิกฺขุํ เอตทโวจุํ✎ ร่าง
Evaṁ vutte, kevaṭṭa, brahmakāyikā devā taṁ bhikkhuṁ etadavocuṁ:
But they also said to him,
มยํปิ โข ภิกฺขุ
น ชานาม✎ ร่าง
‘mayampi kho, bhikkhu, na jānāma:
‘Mendicant, we too do not know this.
ยตฺถิเม ฯเปฯ วาโยธาตูติ✎ ร่าง
“yatthime cattāro mahābhūtā aparisesā nirujjhanti, seyyathidaṁ—pathavīdhātu āpodhātu tejodhātu vāyodhātū”ti.
อตฺถิ โข ภิกฺขุ พฺรหฺมา
มหาพฺรหฺมา อภิภู อนภิภูโต อญฺญทตฺถุทโส วสวตฺติ อิสฺสโร
กตฺตา นิมฺมิตา เสฏฺโฐ สชฺชิตา วสี ปิตา ภูตภพฺยานํ อเมฺหหิ
อภิกฺกนฺตตโร จ ปณีตตโร จ✎ ร่าง
Atthi kho, bhikkhu, brahmā mahābrahmā abhibhū anabhibhūto aññadatthudaso vasavattī issaro kattā nimmātā seṭṭho sajitā vasī pitā bhūtabhabyānaṁ amhehi abhikkantataro ca paṇītataro ca.
But there is the Divinity, the Great Divinity, the Vanquisher, the Unvanquished, the Universal Seer, the Wielder of Power, God Almighty, the Maker, the Creator, the First, the Begetter, the Controller, the Father of those who have been born and those yet to be born. He is our superior.
โส โข เอวํ ชาเนยฺย✎ ร่าง
So kho etaṁ jāneyya:
He might know.’
ยตฺถิเม
จตฺตาโร มหาภูตา อปริเสสา นิรุชฺฌนฺติ เสยฺยถีทํ ปฐวีธาตุ
อาโปธาตุ เตโชธาตุ วาโยธาตูติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“yatthime cattāro mahābhūtā aparisesā nirujjhanti, seyyathidaṁ—pathavīdhātu āpodhātu tejodhātu vāyodhātū”’ti.
กหํ ปนาวุโส เอตรหิ โส
มหาพฺรหฺมาติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
‘Kahaṁ panāvuso, etarahi so mahābrahmā’ti?
‘But reverends, where is that Divinity now?’

มยํปิ โข ภิกฺขุ น ชานาม ยตฺถ วา พฺรหฺมา
เยน วา พฺรหฺมา✎ ร่าง
‘Mayampi kho, bhikkhu, na jānāma, yattha vā brahmā yena vā brahmā yahiṁ vā brahmā;
‘We also don’t know where he is or what way he lies.
อปิจ ภิกฺขุ ยถา นิมิตฺตา ทิสฺสนฺติ อาโลโก
สญฺชายติ โอภาโส ปาตุภวติ พฺรหฺมา ปาตุภวิสฺสติ พฺรหฺมุโน
เหตํ ปุพฺพนิมิตฺตํ ปาตุภาวาย ยทิทํ อาโลโก สญฺชายติ โอภาโส
ปาตุภวตีติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
api ca, bhikkhu, yathā nimittā dissanti, āloko sañjāyati, obhāso pātubhavati, brahmā pātubhavissati, brahmuno hetaṁ pubbanimittaṁ pātubhāvāya, yadidaṁ āloko sañjāyati, obhāso pātubhavatī’ti.
But by the signs that are seen—light arising and radiance appearing—we know that Divinity will appear. For this is the harbinger for the appearance of the Divinity, namely light arising and radiance appearing.’
อถโข โส เกวฏฺฏ มหาพฺรหฺมา นจิรสฺเสว ปาตุรโหสิ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Atha kho so, kevaṭṭa, mahābrahmā nacirasseva pāturahosi.
Not long afterwards, the Great Divinity appeared.
