ยํปิ ภิกฺขเว ตถาคโต ปุริมํ ชาตึ ปุริมํ ภวํ ปุริมํ นิเกตํ
ปุพฺเพ มนุสฺสภูโต สมาโน✎ ร่าง
“Yampi, bhikkhave, tathāgato purimaṁ jātiṁ purimaṁ bhavaṁ purimaṁ niketaṁ pubbe manussabhūto samāno
“Mendicants, in some past lives the Realized One was reborn as a human being.

มหาชนสงฺคาหกํ สเมกฺขมาโน สมํ
ชานาติ ๑- สามํ ชานาติ ปุริสํ ชานาติ ปุริสวิเสสํ ชานาติ✎ ร่าง
mahājanasaṅgahaṁ samekkhamāno samaṁ jānāti sāmaṁ jānāti, purisaṁ jānāti purisavisesaṁ jānāti:
Examining the gathered population, he knew what they had in common and what was their own; he knew each person, and he knew the distinctions between people.
อยมิทมรหติ อยมิทมรหตีติ ตตฺถ ตตฺถ วิเสสตฺถกโร ปุเร ๒-
อโหสิ ฯ✎ ร่าง
‘ayamidamarahati ayamidamarahatī’ti tattha tattha purisavisesakaro ahosi.
In each case, he made appropriate distinctions between people: ‘This one deserves that; that one deserves this.’
โส ตสฺส กมฺมสฺส กตตฺตา ฯเปฯ✎ ร่าง
So tassa kammassa kaṭattā …pe…
Due to performing those deeds he was reborn in a heavenly realm.
โส ตโต จุโต อิตฺถตฺตํ
อาคโต สมาโน อิมานิ เทฺว มหาปุริสลกฺขณานิ ปฏิลภติ✎ ร่าง
so tato cuto itthattaṁ āgato samāno imāni dve mahāpurisalakkhaṇāni paṭilabhati.
When he came back to this place he obtained these two marks:
นิโคฺรธปริมณฺฑโล จ โหติ ฐิโตเยว อโนนมนฺโต อุโภหิ
ปาณิตเลหิ ชนฺนุกานิ ปริมสติ ปริมชฺชติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Nigrodhaparimaṇḍalo ca hoti, ṭhitakoyeva ca anonamanto ubhohi pāṇitalehi jaṇṇukāni parimasati parimajjati.
he has the proportional circumference of a banyan tree; and when standing upright and not bending over, the palms of both hands touch the knees.
โส เตหิ ลกฺขเณหิ สมนฺนาคโต สเจ อคารํ
อชฺฌาวสติ ราชา โหติ จกฺกวตฺติ ฯเปฯ✎ ร่าง
So tehi lakkhaṇehi samannāgato sace agāraṁ ajjhāvasati, rājā hoti cakkavattī …pe…
Possessing these marks, if he stays at home he becomes a wheel-turning monarch.

rājā samāno kiṁ labhati?
And what does he obtain as king?
อฑฺโฒ โหติ มหทฺธโน มหาโภโค ปหูตชาตรูปรชโต
ปหูตวิตฺตูปกรโณ ปหูตธนธญฺโญ ปริปุณฺณโกฏฺฐาคาโร✎ ร่าง
Aḍḍho hoti mahaddhano mahābhogo pahūtajātarūparajato pahūtavittūpakaraṇo pahūtadhanadhañño paripuṇṇakosakoṭṭhāgāro.
He is rich, affluent, and wealthy, with lots of gold and silver, lots of property and assets, lots of money and grain, and a full treasury and storehouses.
ราชา สมาโน อิทํ ลภติ ฯเปฯ✎ ร่าง
Rājā samāno idaṁ labhati …pe…
That’s what he obtains as king.
พุทฺโธ สมาโน กึ ลภติ✎ ร่าง
buddho samāno kiṁ labhati?
And what does he obtain as Buddha?
อฑฺโฒ
โหติ มหทฺธโน มหาโภโค✎ ร่าง
Aḍḍho hoti mahaddhano mahābhogo.
He is rich, affluent, and wealthy.
ตสฺสิมานิ ธนานิ โหนฺติ เสยฺยถีทํ✎ ร่าง
Tassimāni dhanāni honti, seyyathidaṁ—
He has these kinds of wealth:
สทฺธาธนํ สีลธนํ หิริธนํ โอตฺตปฺปธนํ สุตธนํ จาคธนํ ปญฺญาธนํ✎ ร่าง
saddhādhanaṁ sīladhanaṁ hiridhanaṁ ottappadhanaṁ sutadhanaṁ cāgadhanaṁ paññādhanaṁ.
the wealth of faith, ethics, conscience, prudence, learning, generosity, and wisdom.
พุทฺโธ สมาโน อิทํ ลภติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Buddho samāno idaṁ labhati”.
That’s what he obtains as Buddha.”
เอตมตฺถํ ภควา อโวจ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca.
The Buddha spoke this matter.
