honored by the dragons.

Puttāpi tassa bahavo,
And he has many mighty sons
เอกนามาติ เม สุตํ✎ ร่าง
ekanāmāti me sutaṁ;
all of one name, so I’ve heard.
อสีติ ทส เอโก จ✎ ร่าง
Asīti dasa eko ca,
Eighty, and ten, and one—
อินฺทนามา มหพฺพลา✎ ร่าง
indanāmā mahabbalā.
all of them named Indra.
เต จาปิ พุทฺธํ ทิสฺวาน✎ ร่าง
Te cāpi buddhaṁ disvāna,
After seeing the Awakened One,
พุทฺธํ อาทิจฺจพนฺธุนํ✎ ร่าง
buddhaṁ ādiccabandhunaṁ;
the Buddha, Kinsman of the Sun,
ทูรโต ว นมสฺสนฺติ✎ ร่าง
Dūratova namassanti,
they revere him from afar,
มหนฺตํ วีตสารทํ ฯ✎ ร่าง
mahantaṁ vītasāradaṁ.
the one great of heart and intrepid.
นโม เต ปุริสาชญฺญ✎ ร่าง
Namo te purisājañña,
Homage to you, O thoroughbred!
นโม เต ปุริสุตฺตม✎ ร่าง
namo te purisuttama;
Homage to you, supreme among men!
กุสเลน สเมกฺขสิ✎ ร่าง
Kusalena samekkhasi,
You examine us skillfully;
อมนุสฺสาปิ ตํ วนฺทนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
amanussāpi taṁ vandanti;
the non-humans bow to you.
สุตํ เนตํ อภิณฺหโส✎ ร่าง
Sutaṁ netaṁ abhiṇhaso,
We’ve been asked many a time,
ตสฺมา เอวํ วเทมฺหเส✎ ร่าง
tasmā evaṁ vademase.
‘Do you bow to Gotama the victor?’
ชินํ วนฺทถ โคตมํ✎ ร่าง
‘Jinaṁ vandatha gotamaṁ’,
And so we ought to declare:
ชินํ วนฺทาม โคตมํ✎ ร่าง
‘jinaṁ vandāma gotamaṁ;
‘We bow to Gotama the victor,
วิชฺชาจรณสมฺปนฺนํ✎ ร่าง
Vijjācaraṇasampannaṁ,
accomplished in knowledge and conduct!
พุทฺธํ วนฺทาม โคตมํ ฯ✎ ร่าง
buddhaṁ vandāma gotamaṁ’.
We bow to Gotama the awakened!’
เยน อุตฺตรกุรู รมฺมา✎ ร่าง
Yena uttarakuruvho,
Where the lovely land north of Kuru is,

nor do they draw the plough.
อกฏฺฐปากิมํ สาลึ✎ ร่าง
Akaṭṭhapākimaṁ sāliṁ,
The rice eaten by people
ปริภุญฺชนฺติ มานุสา ฯ✎ ร่าง
paribhuñjanti mānusā.
ripens in untilled soil,
อกณํ อถุสํ สุทฺธํ✎ ร่าง
Akaṇaṁ athusaṁ suddhaṁ,
free of powder or husk, pure,

Pasuṁ ekakhuraṁ katvā,
Having prepared a beast with hooves uncloven,

tour about in every quarter,
หตฺถิยานํ อสฺสยานํ✎ ร่าง
Hatthiyānaṁ assayānaṁ,
provided with heavenly vehicles
ทิพฺพํ ยานํ อุปฏฺฐิตํ✎ ร่าง
dibbaṁ yānaṁ upaṭṭhitaṁ;
of elephant and of horse.
ปาสาทา สิวิกา เจว✎ ร่าง
Pāsādā sivikā ceva,
And there are palaces and palanquins
มหาราชสฺส ยสสฺสิโน ฯ✎ ร่าง
mahārājassa yasassino.
for that great and glorious king.

Tassa ca nagarā ahu,
And he has cities, too,

There is a hall there too named Sālavatī,

Sobhati sabbakālaṁ sā,
Kuvera’s pond of rushes

kuveranaḷinī sadā.
is lovely all the time.
