อตฺถาวุโส สมโณ โคตโม สกฺยปุตฺโต สกฺยกุลา
ปพฺพชิโต ตํ โข ปน ภวนฺตํ ๑- โคตมํ เอวํกลฺยาโณ กิตฺติสทฺโท
อพฺภุคฺคโต✎ ร่าง
Taṁ kho pana bhagavantaṁ gotamaṁ evaṁ kalyāṇo kittisaddo abbhuggato:
He has this good reputation:
อิติปิ โส ภควา อรหํ สมฺมาสมฺพุทฺโธ วิชฺชาจรณสมฺปนฺโน
สุคโต โลกวิทู อนุตฺตโร ปุริสทมฺมสารถิ สตฺถา เทวมนุสฺสานํ
พุทฺโธ ภควาติ✎ ร่าง
‘itipi so bhagavā arahaṁ sammāsambuddho vijjācaraṇasampanno sugato lokavidū anuttaro purisadammasārathi satthā devamanussānaṁ buddho bhagavā’ti.
‘That Blessed One is perfected, a fully awakened Buddha, accomplished in knowledge and conduct, holy, knower of the world, supreme guide for those fit for training, teacher of gods and humans, awakened, blessed.’
ตาหํ ภควนฺตํ อุทฺทิสฺส ปพฺพชิโต✎ ร่าง
Tāhaṁ bhagavantaṁ uddissa pabbajito.
I’ve gone forth in his name.
โส จ เม ภควา
สตฺถา✎ ร่าง
So ca me bhagavā satthā.
That Blessed One is my Teacher,
ตสฺสาหํ ภควโต ธมฺมํ โรเจมีติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Tassa cāhaṁ bhagavato dhammaṁ rocemī”ti.
and I believe in his teaching.”
กหํ ปน ภิกฺขุ เอตรหิ
โส ภควา วิหรติ อรหํ สมฺมาสมฺพุทฺโธติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“Kahaṁ pana, bhikkhu, etarahi so bhagavā viharati arahaṁ sammāsambuddho”ti.
“But mendicant, where is the Blessed One at present, the perfected one, the fully awakened Buddha?”
อตฺถาวุโส อุตฺตเรสุ
ชนปเทสุ สาวตฺถี นาม นครํ✎ ร่าง
“Atthāvuso, uttaresu janapadesu sāvatthi nāma nagaraṁ.
“In the northern lands there is a city named Sāvatthī.
ตตฺถ โส ภควา เอตรหิ วิหรติ
อรหํ สมฺมาสมฺพุทฺโธติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Tattha so bhagavā etarahi viharati arahaṁ sammāsambuddho”ti.
There the Blessed One is now staying, the perfected one, the fully awakened Buddha.”
ทิฏฺฐปุพฺโพ ปน เต ภิกฺขุ โส
ภควา✎ ร่าง
“Diṭṭhapubbo pana te, bhikkhu, so bhagavā;
“But have you ever seen that Buddha?
ทิสฺวา จ ปน ชาเนยฺยาสีติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
disvā ca pana jāneyyāsī”ti?
Would you recognize him if you saw him?”
น โข เม อาวุโส ทิฏฺฐปุพฺโพ
โส ภควา✎ ร่าง
“Na kho me, āvuso, diṭṭhapubbo so bhagavā;
“No, I’ve never seen him,
ทิสฺวาหํ ๒- น ชาเนยฺยนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
disvā cāhaṁ na jāneyyan”ti.
and I wouldn’t recognize him if I did.”
