[๒๗๕] อนาถบิณฑิกเทวบุตร ยืนอยู่ ณ ที่ควรส่วนข้างหนึ่งแล้ว ได้
กล่าวคาถาเหล่านี้ ในสำนักพระผู้มีพระภาคว่า
ก็พระเชตวันนี้นั้น อันหมู่แห่งท่านผู้แสวงคุณพำนักอยู่
พระธรรมราชาก็ประทับอยู่แล้ว เป็นที่ให้เกิดปีติแก่ข้า
พระองค์ ฯ
สัตว์ทั้งหลาย ย่อมบริสุทธิ์ด้วยส่วน ๕ นี้ คือ กรรม
วิชชา ธรรม ศีล และชีวิตอันอุดม หาใช่บริสุทธิ์ด้วยโคตร
หรือทรัพย์ไม่ ฯ
เพราะเหตุนั้นแหละ บุรุษผู้เป็นบัณฑิต เมื่อเล็งเห็นประโยชน์
ของตน พึงเลือกเฟ้นธรรมโดยแยบคายอย่างนี้ จึงจะบริสุทธิ์
ในธรรมนั้น พระสารีบุตรรูปเดียวเท่านั้น เป็นผู้ประเสริฐ
ด้วยปัญญา ศีล และธรรมเครื่องสงบระงับ ภิกษุใดเป็นผู้
ถึงซึ่งฝั่ง ภิกษุนั้นก็มีท่านพระสารีบุตรนั้นเป็นอย่างเยี่ยม ฯ
อนาถบิณฑิกเทวบุตร ครั้นได้กล่าวดังนี้แล้ว ก็ถวายบังคมพระผู้มี-
*พระภาค ทำประทักษิณแล้วอันตรธานไปในที่นั้นเอง ฯ
เอกมนฺตํ ฐิโต โข อนาถปิณฺฑิโก เทวปุตฺโต ภควโต
สนฺติเก อิมา คาถาโย อภาสิ✎ ร่าง
Ekamantaṁ ṭhito kho anāthapiṇḍiko devaputto bhagavato santike imā gāthāyo abhāsi:
Standing to one side, the godling Anāthapiṇḍika recited these verses in the Buddha’s presence:
อิทํ หิตํ เชตวนํ✎ ร่าง
“Idañhi taṁ jetavanaṁ,
“This is indeed that Jeta’s Grove,
อิสิสงฺฆนิเสวิตํ✎ ร่าง
isisaṅghanisevitaṁ;
frequented by the Saṅgha of seers,
อาวุตฺถํ ธมฺมราเชน✎ ร่าง
Āvutthaṁ dhammarājena,
where the King of Dhamma stayed:
ปีติสญฺชนนํ มม✎ ร่าง
pītisañjananaṁ mama.
it brings me joy!
กมฺมํ วิชฺชา จ ธมฺโม จ✎ ร่าง
Kammaṁ vijjā ca dhammo ca,
Deeds, knowledge, and principle;
สีลํ ชีวิตมุตฺตมํ✎ ร่าง
sīlaṁ jīvitamuttamaṁ;
ethical conduct, an excellent livelihood;
เอเตน มจฺจา สุชฺฌนฺติ✎ ร่าง
Etena maccā sujjhanti,
by these are mortals purified,
น โคตฺเตน ธเนน วา✎ ร่าง
na gottena dhanena vā.
not by clan or wealth.
ตสฺมา หิ ปณฺฑิโต โปโส✎ ร่าง
Tasmā hi paṇḍito poso,
That’s why an astute person,
อ้างอิงสยามรัฐ 15.78
สมฺปสฺสํ อตฺถมตฺตโน✎ ร่าง
sampassaṁ atthamattano;
seeing what’s good for themselves,
โยนิโส วิจิเน ธมฺมํ✎ ร่าง
Yoniso vicine dhammaṁ,
would examine the teaching rationally,
เอวํ ตตฺถ วิสุชฺฌติ✎ ร่าง
evaṁ tattha visujjhati.
that’s how they become purified in that.
สารีปุตฺโตว ปญฺญาย✎ ร่าง
Sāriputtova paññāya,
Sāriputta is full of wisdom,

สีเลน อุปสเมน จ✎ ร่าง
sīlena upasamena ca;
ethics, and peace.
โยปิ ปารคโต ภิกฺขุ✎ ร่าง
Yopi pāraṅgato bhikkhu,
Even a mendicant who has crossed over
เอตาวปรโม สิยาติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
etāvaparamo siyā”ti.
might at best equal him.”
อิทมโวจ อนาถปิณฺฑิโก เทวปุตฺโต✎ ร่าง
Idamavoca anāthapiṇḍiko devaputto.
This is what the godling Anāthapiṇḍika said.
อิทํ วตฺวา ภควนฺตํ
อภิวาเทตฺวา ปทกฺขิณํ กตฺวา ตตฺเถวนฺตรธายีติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Idaṁ vatvā bhagavantaṁ abhivādetvā padakkhiṇaṁ katvā tatthevantaradhāyi.
Then he bowed and respectfully circled the Buddha, keeping him on his right side, before vanishing right there.
