[๓๑๕] พระผู้มีพระภาคประทับอยู่ ณ พระเชตวัน อารามของท่าน-
*อนาถบิณฑิกเศรษฐี เขตพระนครสาวัตถี ณ ที่นั้นแล พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสเรียก-
*ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ... แล้วได้ตรัสว่า ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย แม่น้ำใหญ่เหล่านี้คือ คงคา
ยมุนา อจิรวดี สรภู มหี ไหลมาบรรจบกัน บุรุษพึงวักน้ำขึ้นสองสามหยาด
จากที่นั้น เธอทั้งหลายจะสำคัญความข้อนั้นเป็นไฉน น้ำสองสามหยาดที่บุรุษวัก
ขึ้นแล้วก็ดี น้ำในที่บรรจบกันก็ดี ไหนจะมากกว่ากัน ภิกษุทั้งหลายกราบทูลว่า
ข้าแต่พระองค์ผู้เจริญ น้ำในที่บรรจบกันนี้แหละมากกว่าหยาดน้ำสองสามหยาดที่
บุรุษวักขึ้นแล้ว มีประมาณน้อย หยาดน้ำสองสามหยาดที่บุรุษวักขึ้นแล้ว เมื่อ
เทียบเข้ากับน้ำในที่บรรจบกันไม่เข้าถึงเสี้ยวที่ ๑๐๐ เสี้ยวที่ ๑,๐๐๐ เสี้ยวที่
๑๐๐,๐๐๐ แม้ฉันใด ฯ

เสยฺยถาปิ
ภิกฺขเว ยตฺถิมา มหานทิโย สํสนฺทนฺติ สเมนฺติ เสยฺยถีทํ✎ ร่าง
“Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, yatthimā mahānadiyo saṁsandanti samenti, seyyathidaṁ—
“Mendicants, there are places where the great rivers—the Ganges, Yamunā, Aciravatī, Sarabhū, and Mahī—join together and converge.
คงฺคา
ยมุนา อจิรวตี สรภู มหี ตโต ปุริโส เทฺว วา ตีณิ วา
อุทกผุสิตานิ อุทฺธเรยฺย ฯ✎ ร่าง
gaṅgā yamunā aciravatī sarabhū mahī, tato puriso dve vā tīṇi vā udakaphusitāni uddhareyya.
Suppose a person was to draw two or three drops of water from such a place.
ตํ กึ มญฺญถ ภิกฺขเว✎ ร่าง
Taṁ kiṁ maññatha, bhikkhave,
What do you think, mendicants?
กตมํ นุ โข
พหุตรํ ยานิ วา เทฺว วา ตีณิ วา อุทกผุสิตานิ อุพฺภตานิ ยํ วา
สมฺเภชฺชอุทกนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
katamaṁ nu kho bahutaraṁ, yāni vā dve vā tīṇi vā udakaphusitāni ubbhatāni yaṁ vā sambhejjaudakan”ti?
Which is more: the two or three drops drawn out or the water in the confluence?”
เอตเทว ภนฺเต พหุตรํ ยทิทํ สมฺเภชฺชอุทกํ✎ ร่าง
“Etadeva, bhante, bahutaraṁ yadidaṁ sambhejjaudakaṁ;
“Sir, the water in the confluence is certainly more.

อปฺปมตฺตกานิ เทฺว วา ตีณิ วา อุทกผุสิตานิ อุพฺภตานิ✎ ร่าง
appamattakāni dve vā tīṇi vā udakaphusitāni ubbhatāni.
The two or three drops drawn out are tiny.

สติมํ กลํ อุเปนฺติ น สหสฺสิมํ กลํ อุเปนฺติ น สตสหสฺสิมํ กลํ
อุเปนฺติ สมฺเภชฺชอุทกํ อุปนิธาย เทฺว วา ตีณิ วา อุทกผุสิตานิ
อุพฺภตานีติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Neva satimaṁ kalaṁ upenti na sahassimaṁ kalaṁ upenti na satasahassimaṁ kalaṁ upenti sambhejjaudakaṁ upanidhāya dve vā tīṇi vā udakaphusitāni ubbhatānī”ti.
Compared to the water in the confluence, it’s not nearly a hundredth, a thousandth, or a hundred thousandth part.”
