Ekamantaṁ nisinno kho so bhikkhu bhagavantaṁ etadavoca:
Seated to one side, that mendicant said to the Buddha:
โก นุ โข
ภนฺเต เหตุ โก ปจฺจโย เยน มิเธกจฺโจ กายสฺส เภทา ปรํ มรณา
คนฺธพฺพกายิกานํ เทวานํ สหพฺยตํ อุปปชฺชตีติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“ko nu kho, bhante, hetu, ko paccayo, yena midhekacco kāyassa bhedā paraṁ maraṇā gandhabbakāyikānaṁ devānaṁ sahabyataṁ upapajjatī”ti?
“Sir, what is the cause, what is the reason why someone, when their body breaks up, after death, is reborn in the company of the gods of the centaur realm?”
อิธ ภิกฺขุ
เอกจฺโจ กาเยน สุจริตํ จรติ วาจาย สุจริตํ จรติ มนสา
สุจริตํ จรติ✎ ร่าง
“Idha, bhikkhu, ekacco kāyena sucaritaṁ carati, vācāya sucaritaṁ carati, manasā sucaritaṁ carati.
“Mendicant, it’s when someone does good things by way of body, speech, and mind.
ตสฺส สุตํ โหติ✎ ร่าง
Tassa sutaṁ hoti:
And they’ve heard:
คนฺธพฺพกายิกา เทวา ทีฆายุกา
วณฺณวนฺโต สุขพหุลาติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
‘gandhabbakāyikā devā dīghāyukā vaṇṇavanto sukhabahulā’ti.
‘The gods of the centaur realm are long-lived, beautiful, and very happy.’
ตสฺส เอวํ โหติ✎ ร่าง
Tassa evaṁ hoti:

อโห วตาหํ กายสฺส

เภทา ปรํ มรณา คนฺธพฺพกายิกานํ เทวานํ สหพฺยตํ อุปปชฺเชยฺยนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
‘aho vatāhaṁ kāyassa bhedā paraṁ maraṇā gandhabbakāyikānaṁ devānaṁ sahabyataṁ upapajjeyyan’ti.
‘If only, when my body breaks up, after death, I would be reborn in the company of the gods of the centaur realm!’
โส กายสฺส เภทา ปรํ มรณา คนฺธพฺพกายิกานํ เทวานํ สหพฺยตํ
อุปปชฺชติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
So kāyassa bhedā paraṁ maraṇā gandhabbakāyikānaṁ devānaṁ sahabyataṁ upapajjati.
When their body breaks up, after death, they’re reborn in the company of the gods of the centaur realm.
อยํ โข ภิกฺขุ เหตุ อยํ ปจฺจโย เยน มิเธกจฺโจ กายสฺส
เภทา ปรํ มรณา คนฺธพฺพกายิกานํ เทวานํ สหพฺยตํ อุปปชฺชตีติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Ayaṁ kho, bhikkhu, hetu, ayaṁ paccayo, yena midhekacco kāyassa bhedā paraṁ maraṇā gandhabbakāyikānaṁ devānaṁ sahabyataṁ upapajjatī”ti.
This is the cause, this is the reason why someone, when their body breaks up, after death, is reborn in the company of the gods of the centaur realm.”
