And how is someone restrained?

รูปา อิฏฺฐา กนฺตา มนาปา ปิยรูปา กามูปสญฺหิตา

Santi, bhikkhave, cakkhuviññeyyā rūpā iṭṭhā kantā manāpā piyarūpā kāmūpasaṁhitā rajanīyā.
There are sights known by the eye, which are likable, desirable, agreeable, pleasant, sensual, and arousing.
ตญฺเจ ภิกฺขุ นาภินนฺทติ นาภิวทติ น อชฺโฌสาย ๑-
ติฏฺฐติ ฯ เวทิตพฺพเมตํ ภิกฺขเว ภิกฺขุนา✎ ร่าง
Tañce bhikkhu nābhinandati nābhivadati nājjhosāya tiṭṭhati, veditabbametaṁ, bhikkhave, bhikkhunā:
If a mendicant doesn’t approve, welcome, and keep clinging to them, they should understand:
น ปริหายามิ กุสเลหิ
ธมฺเมหิ✎ ร่าง
‘na parihāyāmi kusalehi dhammehi.
‘My skillful qualities are not declining.
อปริหานํ เหตํ วุตฺตํ ภควตาติ ฯเปฯ✎ ร่าง
Aparihānañhetaṁ vuttaṁ bhagavatā’ti …pe…
For this is what the Buddha calls non-decline.’
สนฺติ ภิกฺขเว
ชิวฺหาวิญฺเญยฺยา รสา ฯเปฯ✎ ร่าง
santi, bhikkhave, jivhāviññeyyā rasā …pe…
There are sounds … smells … tastes … touches …
สนฺติ ภิกฺขเว มโนวิญฺเญยฺยา ธมฺมา
อิฏฺฐา กนฺตา มนาปา ปิยรูปา กามูปสญฺหิตา รชนิยา✎ ร่าง
santi, bhikkhave, manoviññeyyā dhammā iṭṭhā kantā manāpā piyarūpā kāmūpasaṁhitā rajanīyā.
ideas known by the mind, which are likable, desirable, agreeable, pleasant, sensual, and arousing.

ภิกฺขุ นาภินนฺทติ นาภิวทติ น อชฺโฌสาย ติฏฺฐติ ฯ เวทิตพฺพเมตํ
ภิกฺขเว ภิกฺขุนา✎ ร่าง
