พฺรหฺมจริยํ พฺรหฺมจริยนฺติ
อาวุโส อานนฺท วุจฺจติ✎ ร่าง
“‘Brahmacariyaṁ, brahmacariyan’ti, āvuso ānanda, vuccati.
“Reverend, they speak of this thing called the ‘spiritual path’.
กตมํ นุ โข อาวุโส พฺรหฺมจริยํ กตมํ
พฺรหฺมจริยปริโยสานนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Katamaṁ nu kho, āvuso, brahmacariyaṁ, katamaṁ brahmacariyapariyosānan”ti?
What is the spiritual path? And what is the culmination of the spiritual path?”
สาธุ สาธุ โข ๑- อาวุโส ภทฺท✎ ร่าง
“Sādhu sādhu, āvuso bhadda.
“Good, good, Reverend Bhadda!
ภทฺทโก โข เต อาวุโส ภทฺท อุมฺมงฺโค ภทฺทกํ ปฏิภาณํ
กลฺยาณี ปริปุจฺฉา✎ ร่าง
Bhaddako kho te, āvuso bhadda, ummaṅgo, bhaddakaṁ paṭibhānaṁ, kalyāṇī paripucchā.

เอวํ หิ ตฺวํ อาวุโส ภทฺท ปุจฺฉสิ✎ ร่าง
Evañhi tvaṁ, āvuso bhadda, pucchasi:
For you asked:
พฺรหฺมจริยํ
พฺรหฺมจริยนฺติ อาวุโส อานนฺท วุจฺจติ✎ ร่าง
‘brahmacariyaṁ, brahmacariyanti, āvuso ānanda, vuccati.
‘They speak of this thing called “the spiritual path”.
กตมํ นุ โข อาวุโส
พฺรหฺมจริยํ กตมํ พฺรหฺมจริยปริโยสานนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Katamaṁ nu kho, āvuso, brahmacariyaṁ, katamaṁ brahmacariyapariyosānan’”ti?
What is the spiritual path? And what is the culmination of the spiritual path?’”
เอวมาวุโสติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“Evamāvuso”ti.
“Yes, reverend.”
อยเมว โข อาวุโส อริโย อฏฺฐงฺคิโก มคฺโค พฺรหฺมจริยํ ฯ
เสยฺยถีทํ ฯ✎ ร่าง
“Ayameva kho, āvuso, ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo brahmacariyaṁ, seyyathidaṁ—
“The spiritual path is simply this noble eightfold path, that is:
สมฺมาทิฏฺฐิ ฯเปฯ สมฺมาสมาธิ ฯ✎ ร่าง
sammādiṭṭhi …pe… sammāsamādhi.
right view, right purpose, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right immersion.
โย โข อาวุโส
ราคกฺขโย โทสกฺขโย โมหกฺขโย✎ ร่าง
Yo kho, āvuso, rāgakkhayo dosakkhayo mohakkhayo—
The ending of greed, hate, and delusion:
อิทํ พฺรหฺมจริยปริโยสานนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
idaṁ brahmacariyapariyosānan”ti.
this is the culmination of the spiritual path.”
