[๒๘๐] ครั้งนั้นแล อนาถบิณฑิกคฤหบดี ได้เข้าไปเฝ้าพระผู้มีพระภาค ถึงที่ประทับ ถวายบังคมพระผู้มีพระภาคแล้วนั่ง ณ ที่ควรส่วนข้างหนึ่ง ครั้นแล้ว ได้ทูลถามพระผู้มีพระภาคว่าข้าแต่พระองค์ผู้เจริญ ในโลกมีทักขิไณยบุคคลกี่ จำพวก และควรให้ทานในเขตไหน พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสตอบว่า ดูกรคฤหบดี ในโลกมีทักขิไณยบุคคล ๒ จำพวก คือ พระเสขะ ๑ พระอเสขะ ๑ ดูกร คฤหบดี ในโลกนี้มีทักขิไณยบุคคล ๒ จำพวกนี้แล และควรให้ทานในเขตนี้ ครั้นพระผู้มีพระภาคผู้สุคตศาสดาได้ตรัสไวยากรณภาษิตนี้จบลงแล้ว จึง ได้ตรัสคาถาประพันธ์ต่อไปอีกในภายหลังว่า "ในโลกนี้ พระเสขะกับพระอเสขะเป็นผู้ควรแก่ทักษิณา ของทายกผู้บูชาอยู่ พระเสขะและอเสขะเหล่านั้นเป็นผู้ตรง ทั้งทางกาย ทางวาจา และทางใจ นี้เป็นเขตบุญของทายก ผู้บูชาอยู่ ทานที่ให้แล้วในเขตนี้มีผลมาก" ฯ
