ภโต วา โน

Bhato vā no bharissati;
Since we looked after them, they’ll look after us.
กิจฺจํ วา โน กริสฺสติ🤖 AI จับคู่
kiccaṁ vā no karissati;
They’ll do their duty for us.
กุลวํโส จิรํ ฐสฺสติ🤖 AI จับคู่
kulavaṁso ciraṁ ṭhassati;
The family traditions will last.
ทายชฺชํ
ปฏิปชฺชติ🤖 AI จับคู่
dāyajjaṁ paṭipajjissati;
They’ll take care of the inheritance.
อถ วา ปน เปตานํ กาลกตานํ ทกฺขิณํ อนุปฺปทสฺสติ🤖 AI จับคู่
atha vā pana petānaṁ kālaṅkatānaṁ dakkhiṇaṁ anuppadassatīti.
Or else when we have passed away they’ll give an offering on our behalf.
อิมานิ โข ภิกฺขเว ปญฺจ ฐานานิ สมฺปสฺสนฺตา มาตาปิตโร ปุตฺตํ

Seeing five reasons,

puttaṁ icchanti paṇḍitā;
astute people wish for a child.

Bhato vā no bharissati,
Since we looked after them, they’ll look after us.

kiccaṁ vā no karissati.

Kulavaṁso ciraṁ tiṭṭhe,

Seeing these five reasons

puttaṁ icchanti paṇḍitā;
astute people wish for a child.
ตสฺมา สนฺโต สปฺปุริสา🤖 AI จับคู่
Tasmā santo sappurisā,
And so true persons,
กตญฺญู กตเวทิโน🤖 AI จับคู่
kataññū katavedino.
grateful and thankful,
ภรนฺติ มาตาปิตโร🤖 AI จับคู่
Bharanti mātāpitaro,
look after their parents,

pubbe katamanussaraṁ;
remembering past deeds.
กโรนฺติ เนสํ กิจฺจานิ🤖 AI จับคู่
Karonti nesaṁ kiccāni,
They do for their parents,
ยถาตํ ปุพฺพการินํ🤖 AI จับคู่
yathā taṁ pubbakārinaṁ.
as their parents did for them in the past.
โอวาทการี ภตโปสี🤖 AI จับคู่
Ovādakārī bhataposī,
Following their advice, looking after those who raised them,
กุลวํสํ อหาปยํ🤖 AI จับคู่
kulavaṁsaṁ ahāpayaṁ;
the family traditions are not lost.
สทฺโธ สีเลน สมฺปนฺโน🤖 AI จับคู่
Saddho sīlena sampanno,
Faithful, accomplished in ethics,
ปุตฺโต โหติ ปสํสิโยติ ฯ🤖 AI จับคู่
putto hoti pasaṁsiyo”ti.
such a child is praiseworthy.”
