beauty,
สุขํ อิฏฺฐํ

happiness,

and heaven.

These are the five things, which are likable, desirable, and agreeable, but hard to get in the world.

A noble disciple who wants to live long ought not pray for it, or hope for it, or pine for it.

อายุสํวตฺตนิกา ปฏิปทา ปฏิปชฺชิตพฺพา🤖 AI จับคู่
Āyukāmena, gahapati, ariyasāvakena āyusaṁvattanikā paṭipadā paṭipajjitabbā.
Instead, they should practice the way that leads to long life.
อายุสํวตฺตนิกา หิสฺส ปฏิปทา
ปฏิปนฺนา อายุปฏิลาภาย สํวตฺตติ🤖 AI จับคู่
Āyusaṁvattanikā hissa paṭipadā paṭipannā āyupaṭilābhāya saṁvattati.
For by practicing that way they gain long life
โส ลาภี โหติ อายุสฺส ทิพฺพสฺส วา

So lābhī hoti āyussa dibbassa vā mānusassa vā.
as a god or a human being.
น โข คหปติ อรหติ อริยสาวโก วณฺณกาโม วณฺณํ

Na kho, gahapati, arahati ariyasāvako vaṇṇakāmo vaṇṇaṁ āyācituṁ vā abhinandituṁ vā vaṇṇassa vāpi hetu.
A noble disciple who wants to be beautiful ought not pray for it, or hope for it, or pine for it.
วณฺณกาเมน

Instead, they should practice the way that leads to beauty.

So lābhī hoti saggānanti.
they are one who gains the heavens.
อายุํ วณฺณํ ยสํ กิตฺตึ🤖 AI จับคู่
Āyuṁ vaṇṇaṁ yasaṁ kittiṁ,
For one who desires lofty delights
สคฺคํ อุจฺจากุลีนตํ🤖 AI จับคู่
Saggaṁ uccākulīnataṁ;
again and again—
รติโย ปตฺถยาเนน🤖 AI จับคู่
Ratiyo patthayānena,
long life, beauty, fame and reputation,
อุฬารา อปราปรา🤖 AI จับคู่
Uḷārā aparāparā.
heaven, and an eminent family—
อปฺปมาทํ ปสํสนฺติ🤖 AI จับคู่
Appamādaṁ pasaṁsanti,
the astute praise diligence

Diṭṭhe dhamme ca yo attho,
the benefit in this life,
โย จตฺโถ สมฺปรายิโก🤖 AI จับคู่
yo cattho samparāyiko;
and in lives to come.
อตฺถาภิสมยา ธีโร🤖 AI จับคู่
Atthābhisamayā dhīro,
An attentive one, comprehending the meaning,
ปณฺฑิโตติ ปวุจฺจตีติ ฯ🤖 AI จับคู่
paṇḍitoti pavuccatī”ti.
is called ‘astute’.”
