[๔๑] ครั้งนั้นแล ท่านพระอุบาลีได้เข้าไปเฝ้าพระผู้มีพระภาคถึงที่ ประทับ ถวายบังคมพระผู้มีพระภาคแล้ว นั่ง ณ ที่ควรส่วนข้างหนึ่ง ครั้นแล้ว ได้ทูลถามว่า ข้าแต่พระองค์ผู้เจริญ อะไรหนอแลเป็นเหตุเป็นปัจจัยเครื่องให้ ความหมายมั่น การทะเลาะ การแก่งแย่ง และการวิวาทเกิดขึ้นในสงฆ์ ที่เป็น เหตุให้ภิกษุทั้งหลายอยู่ไม่สำราญ ฯ พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสว่า ดูกรอุบาลี ภิกษุในธรรมวินัยนี้ ย่อมแสดงสิ่ง ที่ไม่เป็นธรรมว่าเป็นธรรม ย่อมแสดงสิ่งที่เป็นธรรมว่าไม่เป็นธรรม ย่อม แสดงสิ่งที่ไม่เป็นวินัยว่าเป็นวินัย ย่อมแสดงสิ่งที่เป็นวินัยว่าไม่เป็นวินัย ย่อม แสดงสิ่งที่ตถาคตไม่ได้กล่าวไว้ ไม่ได้บอกไว้ว่า ตถาคตได้กล่าวไว้ได้บอกไว้ ย่อมแสดงสิ่งที่ตถาคตได้กล่าวไว้ได้บอกไว้ว่า ตถาคตไม่ได้กล่าวไว้ไม่ได้บอกไว้ ย่อมแสดงสิ่งที่ตถาคตไม่เคยประพฤติมาว่า ตถาคตเคยประพฤติมา ย่อมแสดงสิ่งที่ ตถาคตเคยประพฤติมาว่า ตถาคตไม่เคยประพฤติมา ย่อมแสดงสิ่งที่ตถาคตไม่ได้ บัญญัติไว้ว่า ตถาคตได้บัญญัติไว้ ย่อมแสดงสิ่งที่ตถาคตได้บัญญัติไว้ว่า ตถาคตไม่ ได้บัญญัติไว้ ดูกรอุบาลี นี้แลเป็นเหตุเป็นปัจจัยเครื่องให้ความหมายมั่น การทะเลาะ การแก่งแย่ง และการวิวาทเกิดขึ้นในสงฆ์ ที่เป็นเหตุให้ภิกษุทั้งหลายอยู่ไม่สำราญ ฯ
