[๒๓๓] จริงอยู่ พระสูตรนี้พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสแล้ว พระสูตรนี้
พระผู้มีพระภาคผู้เป็นพระอรหันต์ตรัสแล้ว เพราะเหตุนั้น ข้าพเจ้าได้สดับมา
แล้วว่า ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย การแสวงหา ๓ ประการนี้ ๓ ประการเป็นไฉน คือ
การแสวงหากาม ๑ การแสวงหาภพ ๑ การแสวงหาพรหมจรรย์ ๑ ดูกรภิกษุ
ทั้งหลาย การแสวงหา ๓ ประการนี้แล ฯ
พระผู้มีพระภาคได้ตรัสเนื้อความนี้แล้ว ในพระสูตรนั้น พระผู้มีพระภาค
ตรัสคาถาประพันธ์ดังนี้ว่า
การแสวงหากาม การแสวงหาภพ กับการแสวงหาพรหมจรรย์
การยึดมั่นว่าจริงดังนี้ เป็นที่ตั้งแห่งทิฐิที่เกิดขึ้น การแสวงหา
ทั้งหลายอันเป็นที่ตั้งแห่งทิฐิ พระอรหันต์ผู้ไม่ยินดีแล้วด้วย
ความยินดีทั้งปวง ผู้น้อมไปในธรรมเป็นที่สิ้นตัณหา สละ
คืนเสียแล้ว ถอนขึ้นได้แล้ว ภิกษุเป็นผู้ไม่มีความหวัง ไม่มี
ความสงสัย เพราะความสิ้นไปแห่งการแสวงหาทั้งหลาย ฯ
เนื้อความแม้นี้พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสแล้ว เพราะเหตุนั้น ข้าพเจ้าได้สดับมาแล้ว

Searches (2nd)
วุตฺตํ เหตํ ภควตา วุตฺตมรหตาติ เม สุตํ✎ ร่าง
Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:
This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
ติสฺโส
อิมา ภิกฺขเว เอสนา✎ ร่าง
“Tisso imā, bhikkhave, esanā.
“Mendicants, there are these three searches.

Katamā tisso?
What three?
กาเมสนา ภเวสนา
พฺรหฺมจริเยสนา ฯ✎ ร่าง
Kāmesanā, bhavesanā, brahmacariyesanā—
The search for sensual pleasures, the search for continued existence, and the search for a spiritual path.
อิมา โข ภิกฺขเว ติสฺโส เอสนาติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
imā kho, bhikkhave, tisso esanā”ti.
These are the three searches.”
เอตมตฺถํ
ภควา อโวจ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca.
The Buddha spoke this matter.
ตตฺเถตํ อิติ วุจฺจติ✎ ร่าง
Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:
On this it is said:
กาเมสนา ภเวสนา✎ ร่าง
“Kāmesanā bhavesanā,
“The search for sensual pleasures, for a good rebirth,
พฺรหฺมจริเยสนา สห✎ ร่าง
brahmacariyesanā saha;
and the search for a spiritual path;
อิติ สจฺจปรามาโส✎ ร่าง
Iti saccaparāmāso,
the holding tight to the thought, ‘this is the truth’,
ทิฏฺฐิฏฺฐานา สมุสฺสยา✎ ร่าง
diṭṭhiṭṭhānā samussayā.
and the mass of grounds for views—
สพฺพราควิรตฺตสฺส✎ ร่าง
Sabbarāgavirattassa,
for one detached from all lusts,

ตณฺหกฺขยวิมุตฺติโน✎ ร่าง
taṇhakkhayavimuttino;
freed by the ending of craving,
เอสนาปฏินิสฺสฏฺฐา✎ ร่าง
Esanā paṭinissaṭṭhā,
that searching has been relinquished,
ทิฏฺฐิฏฺฐานา สมูหตา✎ ร่าง
diṭṭhiṭṭhānā samūhatā;
and those grounds for views eradicated.
เอสนานํ ขยา ภิกฺขุ✎ ร่าง
Esanānaṁ khayā bhikkhu,
With the ending of searches, a mendicant
นิราโส อกถงฺกถีติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
nirāso akathaṅkathī”ti.
is free of hope and indecision.”
อยมฺปิ อตฺโถ วุตฺโต ภควตา อิติ เม สุตนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.
This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
