Dutiyarāgasutta
Greed (2nd)
วุตฺตํ เหตํ ภควตา วุตฺตมรหตาติ เม สุตํ✎ ร่าง
Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:
This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
ยสฺส
กสฺสจิ ภิกฺขเว ภิกฺขุสฺส วา ภิกฺขุนิยา วา ราโค อปฺปหีโน โทโส
อปฺปหีโน โมโห อปฺปหีโน✎ ร่าง
“Yassa kassaci, bhikkhave, bhikkhussa vā bhikkhuniyā vā rāgo appahīno, doso appahīno, moho appahīno—
“Whoever has not given up greed, hate, and delusion
อยํ วุจฺจติ ภิกฺขเว น อตริ สมุทฺทํ
สอูมึ สวีจึ สาวฏฺฏํ สคหํ สรกฺขสํ ฯ✎ ร่าง
ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, ‘atiṇṇo samuddaṁ saūmiṁ savīciṁ sāvaṭṭaṁ sagahaṁ sarakkhasaṁ’.
is said to have not crossed over the ocean with its waves and whirlpools, its saltwater crocodiles and monsters.
ยสฺส กสฺสจิ ภิกฺขเว
ภิกฺขุสฺส วา ภิกฺขุนิยา วา ราโค ปหีโน โทโส ปหีโน โมโห
ปหีโน✎ ร่าง
Yassa kassaci, bhikkhave, bhikkhussa vā bhikkhuniyā vā rāgo pahīno, doso pahīno, moho pahīno—
Whoever has given up greed, hate, and delusion
อยํ วุจฺจติ ภิกฺขเว อตริ สมุทฺทํ สอูมึ สวีจึ สาวฏฺฏํ
สคหํ สรกฺขสํ ติณฺโณ ปารคโต ๒- ถเล ติฏฺฐติ พฺราหฺมโณติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, ‘atari samuddaṁ saūmiṁ savīciṁ sāvaṭṭaṁ sagahaṁ sarakkhasaṁ, tiṇṇo pāraṅgato thale tiṭṭhati brāhmaṇo’”ti.
is said to have crossed over the ocean with its waves and whirlpools, its saltwater crocodiles and monsters. Crossed over and gone to the far shore, that brahmin stands on solid ground.”
เอตมตฺถํ ภควา อโวจ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca.
The Buddha spoke this matter.
ตตฺเถตํ อิติ วุจฺจติ✎ ร่าง
Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:
On this it is said:
ยสฺส ราโค จ โทโส จ✎ ร่าง
“Yassa rāgo ca doso ca,
“Those in whom greed, hate, and ignorance
อวิชฺชา จ วิราชิตา✎ ร่าง
Avijjā ca virājitā;
have faded away,
โสมํ สมุทฺทํ สคหํ สรกฺขสํ✎ ร่าง
Somaṁ samuddaṁ sagahaṁ sarakkhasaṁ,
have crossed the ocean so hard to cross,
สอูมิภยํ ทุตฺตรํ อจฺจตาริ✎ ร่าง
Saūmibhayaṁ duttaraṁ accatāri.
with its saltwater crocodiles and monsters, its waves and dangers.
สงฺคาติโค มจฺจุชโห นิรูปธิ✎ ร่าง
Saṅgātigo maccujaho nirūpadhi,
They’ve slipped their chains, given up death, and have no attachments.

ปหาสิ ทุกฺขํ อปุนพฺภวาย✎ ร่าง
Pahāsi dukkhaṁ apunabbhavāya;
They’ve given up suffering, so there are no more future lives.
อตฺถงฺคโต โส น สมานเมติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Atthaṅgato so na pamāṇameti,
They’ve disappeared and cannot be defined;
อโมหยิ มจฺจุราชนฺติ พฺรูมีติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Amohayi maccurājanti brūmī”ti.
they’ve confounded the King of Death, I say.”
อยมฺปิ อตฺโถ วุตฺโต ภควตา อิติ เม สุตนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.
This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.

ตสฺสุทฺทานํ✎ ร่าง
Tassuddānaṁ

Puññaṁ cakkhu atha indriyāni,
อทฺธา ๒- จริตํ ทุเว สุจิ✎ ร่าง
Addhā ca caritaṁ duve soci;
มุเน ๓- อถ ราค ทุเว✎ ร่าง
Muno atha rāgaduve,
ปุน วคฺคมาหุ ทุติยมุตฺตมนฺติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Puna vaggamāhu dutiyamuttamanti.
