พหุการา ๑- ภิกฺขเว
มาตาปิตโร ปุตฺตานํ อาปาทกา โปสกา อิมสฺส โลกสฺส ทสฺเสตาโรติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
Bahukārā, bhikkhave, mātāpitaro puttānaṁ āpādakā posakā imassa lokassa dassetāro”ti.
Parents are very helpful to their children, they raise them, nurture them, and show them the world.”

On this it is said:
พฺรหฺมาติ มาตาปิตโร✎ ร่าง
“Brahmāti mātāpitaro,
“Parents are said to be ‘Divinity’
ปุพฺพาจริยาติ วุจฺจเร✎ ร่าง
pubbācariyāti vuccare;
and ‘first tutors’.
อาหุเนยฺยา จ ปุตฺตานํ✎ ร่าง
Āhuneyyā ca puttānaṁ,
They’re worthy of offerings dedicated to the gods from their children,
ปชาย อนุกมฺปกา ฯ✎ ร่าง
pajāya anukampakā.
for they love their offspring.
ตสฺมา หิ เน นมสฺเสยฺย✎ ร่าง
Tasmā hi ne namasseyya,

would revere them and honor them

with food and drink,
วตฺเถน สยเนน จ✎ ร่าง
vatthena sayanena ca;
clothes and bedding,
อุจฺฉาทเนน นฺหาปเนน✎ ร่าง
Ucchādanena nhāpanena,
anointing and bathing,
ปาทานํ โธวเนน จ ฯ✎ ร่าง
pādānaṁ dhovanena ca.
and by washing their feet.
ตาย นํ ปาริจริยาย✎ ร่าง
Tāya naṁ pāricariyāya,
Because they serve
มาตาปิตูสุ ปณฺฑิตา✎ ร่าง
mātāpitūsu paṇḍitā;
their parents like this,
อิเธว นํ ปสํสนฺติ✎ ร่าง
Idheva naṁ pasaṁsanti,
they’re praised in this life by the astute,
เปจฺจ สคฺเค ปโมทตีติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
pecca sagge pamodatī”ti.
and they depart to rejoice in heaven.”

Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.
This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
