[๑๔๑] ได้ยินว่า ท่านพระปุณณมันตานีบุตรเถระได้ภาษิตคาถานี้ไว้อย่างนี้ว่า บุคคลควรสมาคมกับสัปบุรุษ ผู้เป็นบัณฑิตชี้แจงประโยชน์เท่านั้น เพราะธีรชนทั้งหลายเป็นผู้ไม่ประมาท เห็นประจักษ์ด้วยปัญญา ย่อมได้ บรรลุถึงประโยชน์อย่างใหญ่ ประโยชน์อย่างลึกซึ้ง เห็นได้ยาก ละเอียด สุขุม.

“Sabbhireva samāsetha,

Associate only with the virtuous,

ปณฺฑิเตหตฺถทสฺสิภิ✎ ร่าง

paṇḍitehatthadassibhi;

the astute ones who see the goal.

อตฺถํ มหนฺตํ คมฺภีรํ✎ ร่าง

Atthaṁ mahantaṁ gambhīraṁ,

The wise ones, diligent and clear-seeing,

duddasaṁ nipuṇaṁ aṇuṁ;

realize the goal

ธีรา สมธิคจฺฉนฺติ✎ ร่าง

Dhīrā samadhigacchanti,

so great and profound,

อปฺปมตฺตา วิจกฺขณาติ ฯ✎ ร่าง

appamattā vicakkhaṇā”ti.

อิตฺถํ สุทํ อายสฺมา ปุณฺโณ มนฺตานิปุตฺโต เถโร คาถํ อภาสิตฺถ ฯ✎ ร่าง

Itthaṁ sudaṁ āyasmā puṇṇo mantāṇiputto thero gāthaṁ abhāsitthāti.

That is how this verse was recited by the senior venerable Puṇṇa son of Mantāṇī.
