[๓๒๓] เราเดินเข้าไปบิณฑบาตในพระนคร ได้เห็นหญิงฟ้อนรำคนหนึ่ง ตก แต่งร่างกายด้วยเครื่องอาภรณ์ นุ่งห่มผ้าสวยงาม ทัดทรงดอกไม้ ลูบ ไล้ด้วยกระแจะจันทน์ ฟ้อนรำอยู่ในวงดนตรีที่ถนนหลวง ท่ามกลาง พระนคร เป็นดุจบ่วงแห่งมัจจุราชอันธรรมชาติมาดักไว้ เพราะฉะนั้น การกระทำไว้ในใจโดยอุบายอันแยบคาย จึงบังเกิดขึ้นแก่เรา อาทีนว- โทษปรากฏแก่เรา ความเบื่อหน่ายก็ตั้งลงมั่น ลำดับนั้นจิตของเราก็ หลุดพ้นจากสรรพกิเลส ขอท่านจงดูความที่แห่งธรรมเป็นธรรมอันดีเลิศ เราได้บรรลุวิชชา ๓ แล้ว ได้ทำกิจพระพุทธศาสนาเสร็จแล้ว.

a dancer dancing as the music plays.

Piṇḍikāya paviṭṭhohaṁ,

I entered for alms,

คจฺฉนฺโต นํ อุทิกฺขิสํ✎ ร่าง

gacchanto naṁ udikkhisaṁ;

and while walking along I glanced at her,

อลงฺกตํ สุวสนํ✎ ร่าง

Alaṅkataṁ suvasanaṁ,

adorned with jewelry and all dressed up,

มจฺจุปาสํว โอฑฺฑิตํ ฯ✎ ร่าง

maccupāsaṁva oḍḍitaṁ.

set up like a snare of death.

Tato me manasīkāro,

Then the realization

โยนิโส อุทปชฺชถ✎ ร่าง

yoniso udapajjatha;

came upon me—

อาทีนโว ปาตุรหุ✎ ร่าง

Ādīnavo pāturahu,

the danger became clear,

นิพฺพิทา สมติฏฺฐถ ๑- ฯ✎ ร่าง

nibbidā samatiṭṭhatha.

and I grew firmly disillusioned.

ตโต จิตฺตํ วิมุจฺจิ เม✎ ร่าง

Tato cittaṁ vimucci me,

Then my mind was freed—

behold the clear rightness of the teaching!

Tisso vijjā anuppattā,

I’ve attained the three knowledges

kataṁ buddhassa sāsanan”ti.

and fulfilled the Buddha’s instructions.
