“Dvipādakoyaṁ asuci,
This two-legged body is dirty and stinking,

full of different carcasses,

but still it is cherished!

Migaṁ nilīnaṁ kūṭena,
Like a lurking deer by a trick,

baḷiseneva ambujaṁ;
like a fish by a hook,

Vānaraṁ viya lepena,

พาธยนฺติ ปุถุชฺชนํ✎ ร่าง
bādhayanti puthujjanaṁ.
they trap an ordinary person.
รูปา สทฺทา รสา คนฺธา✎ ร่าง
Rūpā saddā rasā gandhā,
Sights, sounds, tastes, smells,

โผฏฺฐพฺพา จ มโนรมา✎ ร่าง
phoṭṭhabbā ca manoramā;
and touches so delightful:
ปญฺจ กามคุณา เอเต✎ ร่าง
Pañca kāmaguṇā ete,
these five kinds of sensual stimulation
อิตฺถิรูปสฺมึ ทิสฺสเร ฯ✎ ร่าง
itthirūpasmi dissare.
are seen in a woman’s body.
เย เอตา อุปเสวนฺติ✎ ร่าง
Ye etā upasevanti,
Those ordinary people, their minds full of lust,

รตฺตจิตฺตา ปุถุชฺชนา✎ ร่าง
rattacittā puthujjanā;
who pursue those women:
วฑฺเฒนฺติ กฏสึ โฆรํ✎ ร่าง
Vaḍḍhenti kaṭasiṁ ghoraṁ,
they swell the horrors of the charnel ground,
อาจินนฺติ ปุนพฺภวํ ฯ✎ ร่าง
ācinanti punabbhavaṁ.
piling up future lives.
โย เจตา ๑- ปริวชฺเชติ✎ ร่าง
Yo cetā parivajjeti,
One who, being mindful,
สปฺปสฺเสว ปทา สิโร✎ ร่าง
sappasseva padā siro;
avoids them
โสมํ วิสตฺติกํ โลเก✎ ร่าง
Somaṁ visattikaṁ loke,
like a snake’s head with their foot,
สโต สมติวตฺตติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
sato samativattati.
gets over clinging to the world.
กาเมสฺวาทีนวํ ทิสฺวา✎ ร่าง
Kāmesvādīnavaṁ disvā,
Seeing the danger in sensual pleasures,
เนกฺขมฺมํ ทฏฺฐุ เขมโต✎ ร่าง
nekkhammaṁ daṭṭhu khemato;
seeing renunciation as sanctuary,
นิสฺสโฏ สพฺพกาเมหิ✎ ร่าง
Nissaṭo sabbakāmehi,
I’ve escaped all sensual pleasures,
ปตฺโต เม อาสวกฺขโยติ ฯ✎ ร่าง
patto me āsavakkhayo”ti.
and attained the ending of defilements.
